Hey, I'm new to the site so I thought I would introduce myself. my name is Will Dickerson and I'm from Durham, NC. I'm also new to this type of site (Forum). I am 23 years old and recently graduated from UNCC. I live by myself and have my own house. I am also Currently looking for the perfect Dobie and have been for some time. I bought my girlfriend a Female Doberman a year ago and never realized how attached both of us would be with "Roxie".
It took me about 30 Minutes to figure out how to post a thread so I hope I'm in the right place. I will also try and attach some Pictures. I could only upload pictures from my cell phone because of the size. Let me know what you think.

Thanks Cheryl/Bob,
I Graduated with a Business/Communication. I work with my Dad in the family business. Which has been around for about 50 years now. I found a few more pictures of Roxie so here they are. She is a year old now and finally starting to fill out some more but she was the runt of her litter. (The Pictures are probably around 5-6..or 7 months)

I love the fact your family's business has been around for 50 yrs!! I really respect the fact you have gone to work with your dad.
Roxie is adorable.
That was Bob's first dog's name...he named her after the song from the Police, Roxanne. Now we are dating ourselves! LOL!
What is Roxie's breeding?
Cheryl
Thanks,
It's a good feeling working with my dad and carrying own the family tradition.
it's funny you mention that song...I often find myself singing that song when calling Roxie's name. I didn't do a very good job researching her background and I didn't go with a reputable breeder when I found Roxie. I got her from a lady by the name of Teresa Heath out of Kernersville, NC. It was her first time breeding Dobermans in about 10 years I believe. She has turned out to be an excellent companion for my girlfriend and I. This time I'm trying to find the same thing but I'd like to go with a reputable breeder.

Most important thing is she is loved by you and your girlfriend.
I rescued my first dobe, Zena. She was with a young girls that was just over whelmed with her mom being very ill and Z' was 1.5 yrs old and a lot of dog.
Zena was a Kimbertal dobe. Not what we would call well bred. She was the best obedience dog and bite dog I ever had....ever!!
Z' is who started me in dobes and kept me there. I come from a GSD foundation. Imports.
It has been 20 + yrs now therehasn't been another breed in my life.
As for the Roxanne song....I was just a year or two younger then you when Sting was on the radio with that one!! Classic and still some of the best music there is!! :cool:

Welcome to DSNN Will… great to have you here. With any luck you will find a warm but disparate groups… willing to share their mutual love of dogs. At the very least, you may come to understand the comittment we make to them.
Roxie is adorable… and she looks like she is loved.. and that is ultimately the most important consideration.
So, if I understood correctly (which could happen :p), the current goal is to find a good-looking, well-bred, modestly-priced companion for you… :) or somehow convince you that showing dogs is really a lot more fun than is appears… and get you hooked on our passion. :):):)
I will concede up front that the latter may be pushing a huge rock up a steep hill, but it could happen. :rolleyes:

It is exactly what happened to me! Zena, then Edge...then there was Luca!
I will blame Carol Knock ( now Mrs Dennis Collins) for the show dog! She got me hooked with Luca and the rest is history!!
I have no pity Will....show dog it is!! LOL!:D

Hmm? I don’t recall a time when I wasn’t aware of dog shows… and the difference between a good dog and a great dog. I think I was born hooked. My earliest memories are of mom’s Brindle Dane, Tiger, who was a grandson of Ch. Vakeck’s Gallant Cavalier. In mom’s view, there was no better Dane in the history of history than Gallant Cavalier… and (you’ll find this hard to believe), but mom wasn’t shy about expressing her opinions. :rolleyes::p
When I was older and finally found a photo of this “great dog” I thought mom was nuts! Here’s a photo http://www.gd-databas.com/hund.asp?hund_id=7563
But now that I take a second look, he has some nice things about him, he’s square, with nice shoulders, a beautiful length of neck, good head planes… but his length of second thigh and weak rear make me cringe.

Hi Will and welcome from Windham NY.
I also had a Roxie, she was my redhead in the house. Roxie was my first Champion on record which was about 7 years ago.
Once you get a taste of the show ring, you are hooked.
These days my life revolves around the show circuts and I wouldn't have it any other was.
Below is a poem that sums up my life.
LAMENT OF A LADY WHO’S GONE TO THE DOGS.
There was a time; their rally was, when I was sweet and tender
When a show dog meant a Disney star and a bitch was not a gender.
I went to bed a half past ten and went to church on Sunday:
On Saturday I baked the beans and did the wash on Monday.
But then I got that certain pup and an erstwhile friend said, “SHOW”
And so I did and so I do, Oh! What I didn’t know.
I used to dress with flair and style, that was the life, don’t knock it,
But now each dress from bed to ball must have a good bait pocket.
I used to have a certain air, I wallowed in perfume,
I used to smell of Nuit d’ Amour, now I smell like Mr. Groom.
My furniture was haut décor, my pets a tank of guppies:
Now I’ve furniture unstuffed and well-adjusted puppies.
Once I spoke in pristine prose, in dulcet tomes and frail;
But now I’m using language that would turn a sailor pale.
I was taught to be well groomed, no matter where I went;
Now all the grooming that I do is in the handler’s tent.
I used to long for fur and jewels and a figure classed as super;
Now the thing I yearn for most is a nice new pooper-scooper.
I adored a man who murmured verse, through intimate little dinners;
But now the words that I thrill to hear are just three—BEST OF WINNERS
I rise at dawn and pack the car, the road ahead’s long one;
The one I routed on the maps invariably the wrong one.
I really love this doggy life; I wouldn’t care to change it,
But when I get that “BEST IN SHOW’, I plan to rearrange it!!
When my time on this earth is done, I’ll go without much nudging;
Just give me the weeks closing date and let me know whose judging.:D
Thats it Elaine,
I don't think I could have summed it up any better than you did. I can say that I enjoy trying new things and I’m as competitive as anyone you will ever meet, so you never know. I feel like I will be letting myself down if I go with just an average Joe breeder who is really in it only for the money. After snooping around your website I’m hooked on how handsome or pretty all the dobes are. Just in case you guys want to see some more of Roxie here are a few more for you….. It’s nice knowing other people who are Doberman crazy.

Hey Will!
Your girl is adorable. Too bad you and your gf don't live closer to PA...my boyfriend and I are 26 and we have one of Bob and Cheryl's boys. We all would have a lot in common! My fam celebrated 50 years in the lumber and building business a couple years ago. I was always interested in dog showing but mostly obedience and agility because my grandma did it, but now I love it all! Just wait until you get started (if you do), you get hooked and thats it :) . If we were any more doberman obsessed at this point someone might send us to a home, we act really strange around this dog with the names and noises etc...LOL. You will learn a lot here, welcome!

Will, that first photo (in post 11 above) is simply World Class cute… reminds me of this photo of Bob and Cheryl’s puppy… post #73 on page 8 of this thread http://www.dogshownewsnetwork.com/forum/showthread.php?t=707&page=8
Not sure if you’ve mentioned this or not, but you might tell us all about the product your father’s company sells, which is like honey to bees for most dog folks. :) Don't know anyone who doesn't need more of what you guys sell. In fact, I would not be surprised if some very good handlers very close to you would trade you the product for their services.

Oh you little darling you!!!:p
Ok ok Elaine.......My family owns a fencing business. “Dickerson Fencing & Landscaping” located in Durham, NC
We do all Fencing...you name it we do it. I'm wrapping things up at work...dinner for my mom’s Birthday tonight. But here is our website. I'll check out those pics you mentioned (the posts before me tonight or tom)
www.Dickersonfenceco.com
I'm working on revamping our site and should be done the first part of 2010. I apologize for the crappy Photos in our gallery I was going to attach some newer ones but I could only attach older scanned photos.....Anyway
We usually stay around the Durham-Raleigh area. I would be interested in working out a Trade or partial trade however it works. If you are too far away or not in need of a Fence I am just as interested dealing with you the old fashion way.
