I was feeling a bit down the past few weeks. I wouldn't say depressed but definitely not happy. I lost my job (plant closure), the weather sucked, going through figures in my head of the money I wasted over the last decade, and just generally having cabin fever. You know, feeling like victim. It was all bullshit.
I went to a funeral yesterday. My parent's neighbor had a daughter that committed suicide. She was young, late 20's early 30's. I didn't know her or her situation. But my heart went out to her father and stepmother who were obviously crushed. As a parent you instinctively feel a need to protect and solve any problems for your children (even if they have four feet). He in this situation is helpless and truely a victim of a situation he can't change.
Later last night I was watching the destruction of Haiti on television. I had heard about the quake but had no idea how bad it is there. Apparently there are no building codes there so many of the concrete structures had no rebar. This obviously made a bad situation a complete disaster. These people are struggling...that's an understatement really. They don't even have adequete water supplies.
These events just put things in perspective for me. I've got it made despite this shitty weather putting a damper on my goals.
