We are about to have a new member, she is from California, has shown Boxers (and the occasional Frenchie) since 1993, has bred/finished quite a few American Champions and is active in her breed. She is about to apply for her judging license, a process that many of us will be going through sooner or later, so a dialogue about that process would be very informative.

Thank you for the introduction. One small correction. I had said I was *not* about to apply for my license just yet. Though I do have more of the qualifications out of the way. I am just not ready to jump into that box of potential politics just yet <g>. However I have been flattered to judge at various Sweepstakes around the country. One of my most favorites was a year ago when I judged Sweeps during my parent club's Regional Specialty weekend. That was a huge honor in my eyes. My largest sweeps entry was 42 Boxers during the Palm Springs shows. Of course the most nervous part of that for me is I was judging among my traditional weekend peers/competitors. But even at that, I found myself simply looking at the dogs, measuring their values, and letting my fingers do the pointing. I surprised myself when I realized I really do enjoy judging the dogs. Coming from owner-handler and pro handler experience with showing my dogs, I like to think I am well rounded. And putting my hands on so many dogs from all over is just a rare treat. Judging gives you an even MORE well rounded view of the entire show scene.
I have spent alot of time in the French Bulldog ring. I do not own them, but close friends do. I have handled several to their titles over the years. I might add one to my Boxer home someday. But for now I simply get the joy of handling them for friends and having a good time at it.
It seems alot of you are a Dobe lot. At least that puts me in the Working group, even here :-)

Welcome! Don't worry about a lot of us being Dobe people, I for one love learning about ALL the dogs, I know really random facts about a lot of breeds LOL.....it will be fun!

“Not” Now how did I miss that powerful little word?
But clearly you are well on your way. Boxers are a great breed to start with (and btw, if you start getting your ducks in a row to do Danes, Dobermans, and Rotties, pretty soon you can do enough dogs for most clubs to hire you. It's only a hop, skip and a jump :p )
So, tell us every little thing about what’s going on in your neck of the woods. Are any of your friends at the Garden this year? I know it’s a bit of a pain to get to New York from the West Coast with a dog… and with this weather, even more so than usual.

There are a few Boxers from this side of the coast going. I have personally attended Westminster twice so far. Only as a cheerleader for my friends and their dogs. I have no desire to sit until 9pm in that horrible stuffy over crowded benching area.
2004 was my first year. I went back with a friend whom had 2 Whippet bitches in the breed. One of them won Best of Breed and we drunk ourselves silly in the bar to celebrate.

And just for you folks, here are a few photos of Dobe ring:

2005 was the second year I went. I actually went by myself that year and felt like that might not have been the right thing to do. LOL---I am a rather short gal and not very imposing. But I had a friend whom lived in Westchester. So she took the train in each morning, met me at my hotel, and was my tour guide around New York. This year I went 2 days earlier to take in some true sightseeing.

Love your photos… wow, how great is that to have photos like that of the Garden. :) Especially when they will take some camera equipment, like cam corders.
I actually have video of the Giant Schnauzer Breed judging in 1995. I had three dogs entered, Andy Linton showed Ch. Logres’ Outabounz, Mark Threlfall showed Ch. Logres’ Puget Power and Mike Kemp was supposed to show Ch. Logres’ Midnight Motion (a.k.a., Steffy) At the last minute Mike had a sort of flake out, and Maripi Wooldridge stepped in with about 2 hours to ring time. She and her team totally re-did Steffy, and went BOS with her. I have it on video. Later that day Maripi went BIS with Peggy Sue (the Scottie, a.k.a. Ch. Gaelforce Postscript). It was fun, a bit $$$... but fun.
Given this axiom, “We don’t achieve goals we don’t set” ... we’re gonna set a goal that we’ll all meet at the Garden next year. I don’t care where we stay, the Penta’s fine (bring your own toilet paper), we can get two of those suites like Wally always gets. I’ll be the social director and get us tickets to every frickin party… and the theater. We’ll only have one dog… that we can all take turns walking … and that will be whoever’s dog is most competitive in 2011. (Based on what I'm seeing when I stack him, I’m thinking that Diarado is a lock to go all the way in 2012;) , but he’ll still be a ballpark wiener in 2011). We’ll get someone’s sky box so we have a place to get off the floor and rest (cause it is a l-o-n-g two days)… and since no one is driving we can have a blast.
I'd better put down this quart of ice cream I'm having for breakfast and start hitting the ol' treadmill. Oh wait, we don't have a treadmill or any exercise equipment (thank god!)... and I have a year to get into shape. Christina, you can fly into Raleigh Durham and we'll drive up to New York together. It's a plan. :)

Hey, I can scream like a banshee for anyone's dog that asks me. Not sure if that helps influence judging, but I will give it my level best. I can just imagine the judging as viewed by a skybox. My company has one at our local arena and have seen some fabulous events there. I just saw Eddie Izzard (love love love him).
Okay, get ready to laugh. My routine at Westminster was to get up at 6am and be at the Garden by 7am. Of course go in the back way with all the dog people since they don't open the doors until 8am. Walk into the Garden before the lights are even turned on. Find the ring I want, sit my but down on a chair and wait for the lights to be turned on. LOL--see various friends in other breeds do the same thing. At 8am, you suddenly see a bunch of spectators come literally running in to try and get one of the few floor seats. Then you see their faces as they see they are taken by "us". That is how I was able to take all those breed photos. At only 5 foot short, I can't see over anyone if I had to stand with the throng :)
Getting drunk in a skybox watching the Groups.......I am not sure if it gets much better than that :) Oh wait........winning Best !
