Good morning, everyone!!! It's been 5 days since my little angel came into my life and I thought I should update you all with our progress.

First, let me start by just making it crystal clear to everyone: Capricia is PERFECTION!! She is the prettiest girl in the world, the smartest apple in the bunch, incredibly athletic and super charming to boot! We all love her to pieces!

She definitely has the hang of the whole housebreaking deal - we're doing pretty well for the most part in that department. She usually gets me up once in the night for a potty and she's an angel about that. We run out in the cold, she does her business and we're snuggled in bed again in less than 5 minutes!

She's not enjoying the cold but she does like the snow itself. There's a fairly large pile on our deck and she climbs all over that thing, sniffing and pawing at the snow. It's HER pile now, no one else goes on that one!

I'm going to try to get some nice photos of her - it's a challenge to get good pictures as she is ALWAYS in motion. I'm getting these blurs of black and that's about it! She's a super little puppy - bold, confident, happy and so loving. She's got everyone in this house wrapped around her little paw :D

Thank you for this update Athy... she has been on my mind. Even in all this activity, she is missed. Give her a hug and a kiss from me. Her brothers and sister say “Hi” as well. :)

It IS a match made in heaven! I think Capricia is so well suited to our household. There is always a lot of activity, lots of coming and going, it's kind of noisy and rambunctious and she is just right in the middle of everything!

She has just learned that she can bound up on to the couch in a single leap. She and I walk in the door from the potty break, she gallops across the room, leaps onto the couch and tackles Aaron with kisses and slurps - there is no resisting her! At first, her leaps didn't always make the grade but now she's got it nailed! She's also mastered going UP the stairs to the bedrooms but not down. So she'll go up (usually chasing her pal Tony) then stand at the top of the stairs, barking for someone to come and get her. Demanding little wench!

I hate leaving for work in the mornings - she might have to start working here too ;)

Life with dogs, one side is a paradise, one side is hell, swinging between the two is called the passion of life. Congratulations on your team!
I really like capricia!

Hi, folks! It's been one week since the whirlwind known as Capricia entered our homes and I think she's winning! This morning we went to visit Aunt Lynnie to have our ears checked out. Prissy has a huge crush on Charlie Brown and of course she showed off by demonstrating how easily she can leap up on snowbanks and dance around. Lyn took a couple photographs of us - I look exhausted, I think motherhood is taking its toll :D

Athy - she is adorable. She is so cute with those really long ears! It's nice to put a face with a name. By the way, my friend, Rosemary, and her puppy Duncan are coming to you club meeting on Tuesday. She is very excited to meet the Doberman families. Take care - Paula

Athy, I absolutely love the photos of you and Capricia… you are such a perfect team, you with your warm beautiful smile, and her expression, which is so cute and so "her" … I could just eat her up.

And holy cow!!! When Dr. Fisher said he did a full length crop, he wasn’t kidding!:):D We really got our money’s worth. :D

Capricia couldn't WAIT to get down and resume pillaging poor Lyn's house! Lyn's house is a doggie dream - she has several toy boxes full of stuffies, chewies and wonderful toys. Every room has a couple dog beds and Capricia has no problem making herself at home! She is definitely keeping me busy. We love her very much!

No wonder she's such a hellion at night! What this picture can't convey are the snores and the gurgles.... snark, snark, pluffft, plufft... she is out like a light! When she's up and going, she is GOING! And when she's down and sleeping, she really sleeeeeeeps :)

I just wish I was a better photographer, I can barely get any action shots because the action is just too FAST! When she's awake, it's constant movement and energy.

Her ears do look good, outside and in. Lyn did them for me the first two times, I did them this last time. She's really a perfect angel about having them done up. I think she realizes that beauty takes time :)

She's really a perfect little girl in all ways. Other than the poopin' and the peein' and the snorin' .... Perfect. Well, except for when she bites your toes while you're on the computer, other than that she's perfect. Oh and her Croc obsession, that's kind of weird but other than that, perfection! Okay, I'll stop there :D

She is truly adorable!!! Your last post was hilarious because its so true HAHA I remember those days.. Now, I must know, where did you get that collar and what brand is it?? SO CUTE. Does it actually work or is it just decorative?? Right now, Cheryl is thinking "Oh God, no sparkly collars for Lincoln please!" :):) .

PS - rent Bob for pics....takes much less stress out of it..Cheryl you should actually tell him to start doing that on the side!

Well, it's actually a vintage rhinestone necklace I found on eBay. It works in that it's a tab collar made of rhinestones but it's not usable as a real collar :)

She'll only be able to wear it for a very short while but Christy has her eye on it for William, the Min Pin... but for now, Capricia is tres glamorous :D

It's been very difficult for me to get decent action shots of Capricia - I need a MUCH better camera. However, this morning, I took a tip from Nicole Bailey who has some EXCELLENT photos of her baby Jinn on Facebook. While Nicole's technique involves potential physical injury to you and your camera (you sit down on the ground, send the pup away, then call her back to you), I did manage to get ONE action shot of Prissy!!!

1473

And here's a photo of Prissy's little heiny ho having a conversation through the fence with Tyra, my hospice foster girl. Doesn't she have a cute butt???

1474

And now of course, she's completely unconscious on the dog bed here in the kitchen. Rough life!

Geez this thread makes me laugh... and Athy, I so apologize for the toe thing… must admit, she is a bit of a toe-shark, and so are Diarado and Hotline. Well, the sun is up in Maryland and it's supposed to get close to 55 degrees today!!! It's a beautiful morning so Capricia and I had our coffee out on the side porch and she can now get herself up there all by herself! After some celebration of the achievement, she settled down with her front paws and head in my lap. She is a very loving little gal.

After we just relaxed a bit, we went in and got William the Min Pin. So now she's cleaning his clock a bit cuz that's the way she rolls :D

Well, I don't want to brag but Capricia has a full mouth of needles, all her girl parts, and major attitude to boot. Yes, I think I did get the best one, honey :D and I'm sure I'm not biased at all!!! We had a great trip to the vet the other week. Walked into the waiting room, it was empty except for a daddy unit, his two little two-legger girls and this big hairy GSD. When we entered the building, the GSD started barking and lunging at Miss Prissy in a most aggressive manner! Priss and I went to the other side of the room and sat down while Mr. Big Mouth GSD kept barking at us. Finally, Capricia had all she was going to take and went to the end of her four foot lead, her collar of red rhinestones a'flashin', up strong on her toes, and she said very loudly "RUFF RUFF RUFF!!!" And THAT was the end of all that noise!!!

Here's her latest photo - I apologize for the blue eyes, I really need a better camera. I think the pose illustrates her overall attitude though!

Good morning, folks! I thought I'd try to take some photos of Miss Capricia on this sunny and chilly morning in Maryland. I definitely need a camera with a faster shutter speed or something - this girl is a wild child! Took her ears down this morning to re-tape so I figured I'd get some bandage-less photos.

This is my typical Prissy-shot - the only time she stands still is when she's watching the horses or the big dogs in the big backyard. So I have lots of excellent butt shots. You can see in this shot her heiny is already bunched up to take off again - apparently there is a lot to monitor in her AO.

1486

This is Prissy's little brother William. He weighs a whopping 12-14 pounds and she outweighs him by a good 25 pounds or more. In the beginning, he was the bossy boy but now the power in the relationship has shifted... BTW, according to the shelter where we got him about a year and a half ago, William is a four month old Doberman Pinscher puppy. Uh huh. Well. He ain't but that's okay, my daughter loves him and he loves her back.

1487

And here's the best photo I could get of the little angel. She stood still for maybe three seconds. She's really a stinker pot. Ya gotta love her :)

1488

Hopefully I'll get her down to Aunt Lynnie's soon and we can try to do some stacked photos.

And here are a few photos of Capricia being admired and loved by a couple of her fans - believe it or not, she is very comfortable being held like this and will lay there as long you're willing to have your legs go numb. I think this trick will seriously lose its charm in about 3 months but for now, everyone loves to cuddle the baby!

Capricia and I have just started handling classes and boy are we exhausted!!! Last night was our second class and the instructor was very pleased to note that both of us have the ability to run in a straight line - woot!

It's interesting to see Prissy's brain working all this over :) She is more mentally tired than physically tired by the end of our training. The instructor allows us quite a bit of rest time during the class since most of the students are puppies - we do have one veteran who is going to be shown by his owner at an upcoming national so they're sprucing up their skills a bit. So we're busy learning stacking and gaiting and leash management.

Definitely a good time and I have a question for the handler folks on the list. What do you all recommend for gear? Collar and leash? One of those single dealios? Length of leash? 4'? 6'? The instructor has some preferences but I want to hear the Doberman viewpoint! Dish please!

Oh and I forgot to mention: I totally LOVE my puppy girl!

Must admit to some abuse from my fellow dog show enthusiasts at the Cherry Blossom cluster. When Prissy became too tired to stand, I picked her up and she curled up in my lap and went to sleep. This is no mean feat with a 50 pound puppy. Anyway, I took a bunch of crap from the hard-hearted Hannahs for spoiling/indulging my girl. I think it's pure jealousy that THEY don't have a sweet, adorable, loving little land shark like mine :D:p:rolleyes:

Sheila
05-07-2010, 12:55 PM
Spoiled? NEVER!!!<G> They are just definitely jealous! I had a lap sitter in Wei as well and she never seemed to get tired of snuggling. I now have a mature bitch who still thinks she is her former size and believe me she is a REAL lapful at 70 pounds<G> She still positions herself across my lap and drapes her head on my shoulder. Must admit I LOVE IT<G>

Yesterday, the hubby and I went to visit some old friends in their new home and we took Capricia along with us. They have a lovely red boy named Gunner, he's about two years old. His brother is currently doing well in the conformation ring but Gunner just hangs out with his mom and dad and three two-legged brothers. Prissy thought he was quite handsome and the two of them had an outright blast playing and running and wrestling in the back yard. I took a couple photos of the two of them - I was so impressed with how gentle Gunner was with Priss. He's a big boy and while there was at least one head dive for Prissy (note the bent back post), overall they did well :)

Rule #1: Never allow or encourage a puppy to do something that you will not want them to do as adults. (climbing on your lap would be at the top of this list)

Rule #2: Screw Rule #1:p

Ahb is a lap dog, Hotline is a lapdog, Wah is a lapdog… Wei is about the sweetest angel ever created… and as Sheila can tell you, she is a lap dog… all the boys are lap dogs… actually when I stop and think about it, Claire is just about the only one who is not a lap dog… she’s more of a “let me sit next to you and you hug me” kind of gal.

We're having a little cookout today, I will try to get some pictures of Capricia. She is SOOOO fast and I definitely need a better camera! I do think her ears look more proportionate - either that or I'm just getting used to them :D

We had a small victory in handling class this past week. The teacher told us that we were both "much improved"! We really didn't have far to go considering where we started but it was a good feeling anyway! Our first night, the teacher's words were: "Well, at least you can run in a straight line!"

Prissy is a very hardworking girl. She enjoys class and considers it her job to protect everyone from the guys going in and out of the gym next door. She alerts and carefully watches any gym-goer who lingers too long in front of our doors.

The best part about Capricia is her temperament - she has the BEST attitude. She likes to go out and about, she visits other people's homes and is just the perfect pal. She is very sweet and loving and she's a firebrand all at the same time. Just totally love her!

Hello all! No new photographs (that are worthy of publication) but a quick update on adventures with Capricia! This past weekend, I took my stepdaughter to PSU for a campus tour and Capricia accompanied us. This was her first long distance trip with overnight stays in a new environment and she did GREAT!

We spent the weekend with my mother and visited my uncle on his farm and Prissy was just a pro about travelling and all the new experiences. My mom has two spayed female Dobes and Capricia was quite taken with them. She did well with my uncle's dogs (a huge Dobe/Shepherd mix, a Lab and a Shih Tzu) and she was WONDERFUL with all the human types.

Capricia assiduously ignored the cattle in the pastures - no barking or alerting or anything on those old cows! She also turned up her nose at the horse drawn Amish carriages, she just had no reaction to them at all.

It is just wonderful to have such a solid temperament in such a young dog :) I love that we can travel, meet new people and dogs and situations and she takes everything in stride. I am pretty sure that I got the best Dobergirl in the UNIVERSE!!! :D

Good morning all! I managed to get a half decent photo of Capricia this morning as she was in "stalk mode". I'm sitting at the kitchen table, having breakfast, and I became aware of a very cute predator, stalking me, with that slow, one step at a time, approach. Struck fear into my heart - I was so scared I wouldn't get the camera turned on in time :D

and Athy... I so, so so apologize for the truly pathetic job I have done on Miss Priss’s page of our website :o … I think she is still 8 weeks old if you go by what’s there. :( Updating her page is my first priority… as soon as I am done with all the MCKC catalog ads (which should be this morning), and then I have to race Warkant up to the vet’s and check in with Pucks new owners… then race up to Winston Salem …and then finish mowing the frickin mare’s pasture…and god knows what all else. But before I sleep Prissy’s page will be beautiful!!! I promise. ;)

Well, in this particular photo, she is not trying to look cute - she is a predator, stalking me for the banana I was having for breakfast. She was doing that "I will take one step at time, very slowly and they won't realize I'm moving toward them" routine. She was being very sneaky - or so she thought :D She cracked me up, her head was dropped, she was totally in stealth mode.

Thank you Athy for being such a gracious hostess and providing a refreshing break on the long drive up to Fitchburg. Love your home… and it was great to see Capricia again. You take extraordinary care of her… she literally glows, reflecting your love and devotion.

This is one of my favorites photos of her. It captures the essence of the breed; Dobermans are powerful elegant athletes, and I see that in this photo.

I think this photo (which is slightly different than the one I sent you earlier) captures the country charm of your lovely home.

We have about 5" so far and it's still coming down. Not too overly cold, mid 30's which I think is going to cause quite a few traffic problems. So I'm working from home today.

None of the dogs want to go out in this except CAPRICIA! Wild Woman goes flying out the door and doesn't even care there is a blizzard. Now granted, she's ready to come back in in 5-10 minutes but I get a real kick out of watching her fly out that door into the snow! She's a real character!

Thats to too funny. I am sure once she realizes none of her "playmates" are willing to go out with her, she's ready to come back in to a nice warm fire.

I just got back from the dentist... had two bone grafts... I am about as sore as I've ever been, and even so I do not envy you guys and your snow. :( Stay warm, enjoy the beauty of it for tonight... and I'll say a prayer that it all melts by tomorrow morning. :) Oh, and ... give Capricia a kiss from me.

Sure doesnt look like this stuff is going to be melting anytime soon. Next couple days below freezing. Its def pummeling us right now with thunder as well as snow.
We're supposed to be getting another round of it Friday as well.

Hope you feel better.

Elaine I hope they gave you some good pain meds!

Capricia is napping as we speak - she and her bro went out earlier this afternoon and carried on for a good long while in between snow fall. Right now, the wind is really high and it's snowing again and not fit for man nor beast. Horses have been in, wet blankets changed out for their warm jammie blankets and they're chowing down on their mash, grain and hay. They were SO ready to come in tonight.

Prissy's daddy went back out in to the snow, he forgot to pick up dog chow this afternoon. I can't believe he's going to brave it, I was ready to make home made but he was determined.

Supposed to be heavy snow all night. Yuck.

When I think of your idyllic farm, with the horse, the dogs and the warm charming country home… it’s all like a Currier and Ives scene. It must be beautiful covered in snow. But we lived through Maryland winters when Arthur was in medical school. The novelty of a bucolic snow covered country scene fades after the first day or so, replaced by treacherous roads, power outages, and piles of the white stuff that make it impossible to do just about anything you want to do. Stay warm, stay safe.

I think Kelly Marquis is dring north from Florida this weeknd, right in this mess. :(

Capricia and I competed in our very first obedience match today! We went to the Northeastern Maryland Kennel Club's B-OB match and entered pre-novice. We won 4th place with a score of 194 in a field of 15 competitors!! Woo hoo!!! The competition was fierce (lots of Shelties and Aussies!) but we kept our heads and came away with a beautiful rosette ribbon and a groovy little stuffed teddy bear!

We had a good time and she was really well behaved. She got lot of compliments about how beautiful she is and she loved all the attention. I think we're both going to take a quick nap this afternoon - that was very exciting!!!

It's about a million degrees outside today and I'm working from home - thank goodness for air conditioning! I'm sitting at my desk and heard this loud groan so I looked out in the hallway and this was what I saw. I think she's about the prettiest thing in the world :)

Prissy is just as sweet as they come. She looks so comfortable.
At 100 degree's plus outside, she def aint no dummy to just chill inside.
