As DSNN's special foreign correspondent, I am here to cover the dog scene in Australia. Seems the whole country is converging on Sydney this Easter for the following shows:
1. The Sydney Royal Easter show
2. The 2010 Australian Doberman Nationals
3. The Irish setter specialty &
4. A Doberman specialty

Saturday 3rd April 2010
I arrived at the Penrith Sports Stadium which is out in whoop whoop. Lyn Brown (Scharmeland Doberman's) had invited me over to see what the Doberman scene in Australia was all about . Lyn & Wayne had won the National twice including the inaugural year, I couldn't have asked for a better guide to show me around.

Saturday's program - baby puppy to Juniors- average entries 30 dogs/bitches per class. I arrive find Lyn & introduce myself- I find this national has a distinctly American feel about it - The Judge is Marilyn Altheide (Darwins Doberman'), the first pup I see her put up is a floppy eared [uncropped] Trotyl grandson by Am Ch: Aquarius Raindance at Walamara (bred by Jim Briley & Ron Babic - handled by Diego Garcia); I step out to look around and I come face to face with the son of a bitch himself "Aussie' or Ch Acquarius Raindance at Walamara can no longer step into the show ring (his ears don't flop /he's cropped]) but nothing prevents him from prancing round in the parking lot.

Saturday was spent meeting people & Lyn who has 30 years + in the breed was just the person to introduce me: Julie Hovell (Copper top Dobermans), Bernadette Smith (Bisart Doberman's) & Babara Alexander (Walamara Doberman's) were some of the people I had the privilege of meeting. If there was a dog I wanted to see stacked they stacked it, owner handlers are a brilliant mob and it’s fantastic to see photo's come to life

Sunday 4th April 2010
Australia follows a quasi British system, champions compete in the classes; the closest your going to get to a specials ring is the open class.

DSNN's special correspondent arrives just in time to see the ultra competitive open dog , the clash of the titans
• BIS Grand Champion Kenardobe Indigo Master - current breed leader and the number 1 dobe last year
• BIS/BISS Grand Ch Coppertop Perfect Liason
• Aust Ch Vanistar Indian Pacific
• BIS Grand Ch Auslander the Arch Angel
• Grand Ch Cozdobe Norman Wisdom
• Ch Scharmaland X factor

The Judge dumps Indigo Master & the Arch Angel in her first cut; Australia's number 1 Doberman has just taken the walk of shame & this was still a very competitive open class. Norman takes the class and heads into the challenge round as the favorite to take the breed .

The brown dog Aust Ch. Brava Dobe Pure Anarchy (by Mary Lehy's Am Ch Wyndem Knights Quest) had very different ideas & stole the dog challenge - Norman's handler could not be faulted for thinking she had it in the bag when she won the open class, but she hadn't counted on Mile's son and the Bravadobe contingent who made up half the audience and cheered their champion on to victory.

The bitches came on and Bernadette then proceeded to pick the winner and the places of every bitch class with frightening accuracy (including hers) moments before she trotted off to handle the very elegant Lexi (Dual Ch Bisart Diamond Spirt CGC CD ET WAC ROM). It's not often you hear a handler say, "I'll make the cut because she is too good to be dumped but she won't win." This bitch will win.

The very competitive Open Bitch class goes to Multi BISS Ikons Dark Godess; Cleo is one very pretty bitch who loves to show and Daniel Filipovic does a brilliant job presenting her. She starts the Bitch Challenge round as favorite but fortune favors the brave Tessa (Ch Glanikdobe Angels Got Me Here) gives it one hell of a go and steals the Bitch challenge from Cleo and a fast finishing minor puppy bitch

Who will be Australia's champion? It's Mile's son versus Thunder's great grand daughter - BISS goes to Bravadobe Pure Aanarchy owned by Bravadobe & Jason Wildman - presented by Nicole Whyte

For yours truly great two days talking to Barbara Alexander about the time her husband judged Aleka the Vindicator presented by Gwen De Milta or Lyn Brown talking about the time she saw Legends Extravagensa V Deco or Bastque Ch Carosel’s Make My Day) is - as the master card advertisement says - "priceless'
