Hello, I am a new member & I wish to introduce myself. My name is Jeff Flynn, although Jeff is my middle name and in catalogs etc. I am listed as John Flynn. I am from Quincy, MA and have been showing Dobes for the last six years. I currently live with three dobes, Rex, multi BOB & Group winning Ch. Magis Bierre Maretti, his half sister Peaches, Magis Miss American Pie, the dam of three champions & her daughter Rosie, multi-BOB Ch Magis Rosie O’Grady, also the dam of three champions. And I co-own and co-bred, with Jim & Nancy Barrett of Magis Dobermans, Sakson, BOB (over specials) Ch. Saks Fifth Ave, a Rex & Rosie son who lives with my brother (a dobe lover who loathes dog shows). Sakson has just finished the day after turning 11 months old going BOS over specials and undefeated in his class (after a 2 month hiatus waiting for majors) at the Framingham Kennel Club show in Wrentham, MA.

Although relatively new to the dog show world, I have own dobes for over twenty years. I am very interested in discussions dealing with the standard, and the history of the breed. I am a librarian and love reading everything dobe related. I have read most books from Philipp Grünig's onward. I am trying to collect copies of as many of the old mags DQ's etc that I can.

That's probably more than enough about myself -

Jeff

Welcome to DSNN Jeff. I look forward to your contribution… and sadly, you would have loved Ann Lanier. She was the editor of the DQ for years and easily one of the most under utilized treasures in Dobermans. I miss her and value her contributions to DSNN. In private Ann was always wiling to share her knowledge and experience , whether it was a tip about photographing dogs, or just a general observation about a dog… her insights were of great value to me.

You might also get a great deal out of this site, which I believe Ann was a part of, American Doberman Pinscher Education Foundation Inc., here is a link to a thread on the website http://www.dogshownewsnetwork.com/forum/showthread.php?t=992

One more thing, you simply must post photos of your dogs. :)

Is there any part of the standard that is if particular interest to you? I’d be happy to talk about “gay tails” or the criticism I have of the dog in the illustrated standard in the context of his balance. A caveat, referencing specific examples (photos) seems to be a very informative option for many of our readers, but as I recall, during a previous attempt to discuss the standard one of our West Coast members quit in a huff. So I guess we have to be aware that some posters are very sensitive about any discussion / criticism of their dogs. My feeling is, “Take the frickin blinders off people, especially if you breed. No dog is perfect!!! Not your, not mine, not anyone’s!!!” And, if the photo of the dog is on the internet, then it’s fair game to discuss.
