I'm not quite sure where to post this, so since it doesn't seem to fit any other forum, I'm putting it here <VBG>

Lesley Reeves-Hunt has come up with a new safety device for anyone who transports or houses more than one dog. It is a panic line that enables you to take up to six dogs away from a dangerous situation at one time, and secure them away from the problem. My first thought is for those of us who travel with multiple dogs in a van or motorhome that is involved in an accident, or multiple dogs in a house fire. I don't want this to turn into an ad, so I'll just tell you where to go to look at it. www.caliscollars.com Click on the scrolling banner or the "panic line" link on the left.

Sharon, I went to the site out of curiosity (and to check it for E1), as I only have one dog.
It just shows a bag that the device is stored in. Do you know what it looks like? or did I miss another spot to view it?
Neat idea though.

She is trying to get pics up of dogs attached to it. The description is there, but what it essential is: a nylon web line with a ring and clip so it can be attached around anything or clipped to something. there branches off the main line of 3 ft each that have a clip that attaches to each collar separately.

Think two upside down "T"s on top of each other. Heavy duty nylon and clips. Of course it would have to be used with dogs that get along....... I have one, and I'll try to get a pic of my dogs hooked up to post.

There is now a picture of the panic line without dogs on the website.

This is a great idea!!

Every house and motorhome should have one with enough arms to snap to every single dog!

Do the side lines have a ring to snap to in case you have no collars on the dogs?.. Or even maybe strong flat strips of plastic with a slit down the center a dogs head could go through in a true emergency, like a motorhome fire, could be stored in the bag too.

Also maybe they will come in smaller lighter versions for little dogs, since I think they carry a LOT of the little guys in a motorhome and some breeders have a zillion.. maybe 20.. they are so small.

The idea behind the Panic Line is speed! Personally I think all dogs travelling should wear a flat collar at all times, with a telephone number on the collar. That being said, the Panic Line can be customized with either O-rings in place of snap hooks, or attached buckle collars. I’m not keen on slip collars on tied out dogs due to the choking hazard or a smart dog loosening the collar and getting loose and buckle collars would need to be adjusted to fit the dog, very time consuming. But if the user was aware of the cons I would make them.

There are three sizes, one inch wide, ¾ inch wide, and ½ inch wide, each with appropriately sized hardware. The Add-On’s are for two more dogs, as many could be added as the user wants. Again, a Panic Line could be made to accommodate as many dogs as a user desired.

Better ideas than mine! I think this is a genius idea! Dobe folks remember when a fire started recently in a motorhome on the infamous Grapevine in CA. The handler, Shayne Hooper, had a number of dogs and was leashing them and handing them out the door as he went back into the flames a number of times to get more dogs. All the dogs got out, though Shayne lost everything else.

He was so fortunate that 2 brothers stopped and were able to grab the dogs as he handed them out. Otherwise he might have been reduced to choosing between tossing dogs out the door on a six or 8 lane freeway, hoping they would survive or grabbing what dogs he could, hanging on and sacrificing the rest. There was no time for anything more.

As soon as he realized there was a fire, Shayne jumped out and attempted to flag down other drivers. Initially, no one stopped, so he dashed in the motorhome and got leashes on a couple of dogs just as the two men ran up. One man stood outside the door and passed the dogs to his brother behind him, while Shayne ran back in for more. He got the last dog(s) out, jumped out himself as the brand new motorhome and his Hummer were consumed.

One can't count on someone being there to help, or being there in time to do much. One can't expect strangers to jump in a burning vehicle to help save dogs, and once you have all these dogs on different leashes, what do you do with them? With dogs in hand, there is little else one could do to help someone who is injured or save anything else, or do anything but hang on. So the ability to tie the dogs up safely is paramount.

I wonder if flat collars with phone numbers will be available?

A well thought out idea!

For Doberman folks, they may be lucky enough to purchase these at the National in Topeka? Otherwise, hit the website!

That's great, all in one place, how clever.

Will they be available at the DPCA National in Topeka? I heard the special Cali's collars sold out last year. Could we order Panic Lines and collars early and pick them up at the National?

I'm sure. The # collars are custom so ordering ahead would be preferred especially if you want to pick them up in Topeka
Now I'm through advertising for Cali's collars <VBG>
