Subject: Chuck Whitney in hospital
Hello friends;
Two of Chuck's grandkid's flew in this weekend to spend time with he and Linda. They spent all day Saturday on the boat in the heat. Later that night Chuck complained of a nagging headache and not being able to focus his concentration on the newspaper--not being able to process what he was reading. Thinking he had been out in the sun too long that day he took something for the headache and went to take a shower. Struck by extreme severe pain in the left side of his head and eye, he collapsed in the bathroom. The ambulance took him to the hospital where he has been given all the usual tests the last two days. The immediate diagnosis was a mild stroke. He has not lost any mobility or speech, but does have some trouble processing his thoughts. I left the hospital tonight and he was in good humor, able to amble around at will, and thinking he'll be out of there in a day or so. He is still having medication for the pain.
Tim went with Linda from the hospital to take the kids to the airport to go back home while I came home to take care of the dogs. The kids have been great, by the way, (Marie is 12 and Nick is 10, I believe) visiting their granddad in the hospital, swimming in our pool and sleeping with all the Dobermans. Nick cried when he left his granddad tonight-- Chuck told him to get a tissue, he must have something in his eye.
Tim called from the airport after Linda had talked to the neurologist, their discussion being the results of the MRI and whatever. They now know he has a large blood clot and 2 smaller ones on the left side of his brain and a blockage or clot in the corroded artery. Of course, much more serious than we had thought. He is being transferred from the hospital he is in to Tampa General, having one of the top neurosurgeons in the country affiliated there. Tim believes they will do the procedure there first thing in the morning. I have no room number there as yet, of course, but will send it out when I know it.
Lisa (deRoulet), I hope you will send this out to others on your Dane email list--I would appreciate it. I will send you any further news when I get it.
Sandy (Teague), I really have very few Doberman people's emails. Please send out to as many as you have, especially to Pam and Lori and Judy King.
If someone can let Perry Phillips know, that would be great.
Chuck's home address is 7550 Tallowtree Dr., Wesley Chapel, FL 33544.
I will keep in touch,
Debbi Jones
