Titan ~ AKC Ch. FREE to non-gardening home
Some of you know that gardening is a passion of mine.. something I find relaxing, even soothing in times of stress... my personal refuge from the daily grind. Earlier this spring I made a few flower boxes, planted them with a few carefully selected annuals and perennials... watered them, fertilized them, nurtured and fussed over them. As the months went by the flowers responded with an impressive display of form and color that bought joy. No matter how busy my day, I always make time for the flowers, even if I’m out watering at 2:00 a.m..

this is how I found Titan this morning :(
btw, I think he'll do well in AGILITY... when I saw what he'd done I went to get the camera... and then asked him to recreate the event... I barely had to gesture to the flower box and he was up inside it... he is so attentive to every command, except of course the "leave the flowers alone" command :o

He had a wonderful time it looks like. Look at that happy face in the first picture. He was just trying to "help" you know.... He sees you doing stuff there all the time, right.....he he.

You're right... I know you're right... but I still want to cry when I see the results of his "gardening" :o

No kidding. That's why I don't have a pretty garden, ours is kind of "wild".
But look at that face, you can't be upset with someone who looks at you like that!!!!

Looks like he only re-arranged one planter.... the one in the background looks intact -- for now.....

Because I have puppies, I chose not to plant any flower boxes/planters this year - good thing, too, because Willy's favorite 'perch' is the half-round whiskey barrel that is usually filled with flowers. He has worked hard to prepare the dirt for next year's plantings, though. It's free of any weeds and nicely aerated.

:D:D:D So, I guess I can say that Titan has prepared the flower box for next year :D ... he's just a gardener ahead of his time. :(

Elaine, we gave up 3 years ago when Caye came to live with us...We tried fencing and he figured out how to get around that one. We figured this year we would try putting in a small veggie garden and low and behold he loves yellow squash plants...Knew I shoudn't have made that stew for him....now he can't wait for me to cook it for him. Must be red boys just love to lighten the gardening load for their loved ones....;););)

Yes, I'd say Titan is a 'progressive' gardener! :D

No, I have experiences that prove that black girls love to garden too. Eva is partial to house plants though. Sorry Elaine for the destruction of your hard work. May I suggest a more durable hobby such as metal working.:D Steel such as the 1040 alloy is resistant to Doberman teeth.

Since I know how much Titan LOVES his Mommy :) and how much his Mommy hates snakes :eek::mad:...... I believe that Titan probably saw a snake or some other undesireable creature go in that flower box and he was just "protecting" his unsuspecting Mom from whatever terrible beast was entering her garden!!! :D:D
That's my story and I'm stickin to it!! :p;):p
and Titan, you can come live in Ohio if things get too bad!!
I didn't plant any flowers this year cuz my dogs never do anything wrong and I didn't want Jeff to be able to prove otherwise!! ;)

Not one to be easily defeated, I headed back to the garden center Saturday morning and made a few purchases (attached are a few photos of the results). Unfortunately, at this time of year, in this climate, my choices were very limited. Julie will know, this cacophony-o-vegetative-matter” is not an “Elaine” effort... but it was the best I could do under the circumstances. :( Note the wire mesh hazard I have surrounded the top of the box with. Anyway, it seems to be working so far.
Elaine, I think it's a fine recovery! Your gardens look beautiful - just don't let the kids help with the weeding anymore :)

Elaine, a decorative picket fence topper would look great. The pickets could have a 6 inch spacing to allow for viewing pleasure yet prevent your demolition man from getting in there. Go buy that sliding compound miter saw and be creative.:D Maybe buy dog ear pickets and rip them narrower and place them at an angle then have a railing at the top which would be routered with a bead or something. Also groove the top railing 3/4" for the pickets. Put a hinge on all sides to gain access to work in there. Wish I had autocad to draw what I am talking about. You get the picture I think.

:)Ok, I have one more possible explanation for Titan's "Lack of Love" for that particular flower box!:cool: I believe that it is Titan in the original pics on this thread having his picture taken in front of "THE" flower box!:D
How can a guy keep up his manliness if Mom takes his picture with flowers? :p
So he either a) was destroying future backgrounds for his pictures or.....
b) was hunting for the blasted snake so he could have a more suitable picture taken with his spoils!! :D
All kidding aside, Elaine your yard looks like Paradise Gardens!!! Everything looks soooo beautiful and healthy!!! Green Thumb and Purple Toe!!! Such Talent!! :);)

you said something about it in a previous post. Why that particular model? Oh, do buy the stand as well. The rollers are a god send. I like this one!!!!

Makita used to make great tools. I have a grinder that I have abused for 15 years now and it keeps coming back. Not sure on their quality now. I do know their chainsaws are made by Dolman which is a bada** German saw with their name on it.

Why that particular model?
no reason... it had the features I wanted... and I was able to find a photo.
Truly, my problem is that I can't get the hang of "measure twice, cut once." I am more of a “measure twice, cut, swear like a sailor... go back to the store, buy more wood. measure twice (yet again), cut, swear... change the design to accommodate the faulty cuts... and swear, swear, swear... and then accept reality and simply try to ignore all the flaws. So, if I had a compound radial arm saw, we’d be flat broke because I’d have spent all our money on lumber. Also, I love designing things... but I usually forget some basic structural component... so again... lots of swearing and more lumber.
Maybe it’s for the best that Arthur has never picked up on my not-so-subtle hints that I want a saw. :o

Perhaps a beginners guide to carpentry book should be given as a gift prior to the saw purchase.:D
Take a class on autocad and/or 3D modeling! It makes designing so much more fun. I would definitely reccommend brushing up on the Geometry though.
E:
I think you have always had the motto "Else fails read the directions." ;) If I remember right you always jump in feet first then ask questions later.:p:D
The planter boxes that you did look fabulous! But some looked established. Now the plants in the first planter don't look like something you would buy. But the rest of the planters do. But eveything you touch when it comes to plants turns to gold. Where ever you live.
I have to go an remove something from Patricks mouth!eek:

Um, Andy? Is the other name for that a....TIGER TRAP????:p:p:p Hey, Elaine, just hire me to stand in front of your flower boxes. I'll divert him. I'll tell him to go find a turtle or a bird, but not a SNAKE:eek:. Or, cheaper fix. Put the dremel ON the flower box. He probably won't even stay in the same ZIP CODE!:p:D

I think Wei inherited Titan's skills. Last summer she totaled innumerable urns of impatiens and a big concrete planter by sliding doors. I finally gave up and put a cover over it to stop the dirt being spewed around. I thought with Wei visiting I was safe. SO WRONG. This morning I was mopping solarium floor and turned around to see what Rake and Player were doing and that darlin girlie had pulled out a good third of the impatiens in Wei's favourite planter.
She looked as happy as Titan with her handiwork<G> Gotta love them!:)

Elaine.....I like his rather abstract and innovative ideas!
You have seen the waste land that is my backyard....I finally got Bob up and moving on getting something done with it. We built all the terraces this weekend and started dumping the dirt. He had a tri-axle of it dumped.
The best part was his face when the mountain was in front of him!! LOL!!!!
The look on his face was something a kin to shock and awe! "Some much dirt, so little energy! " HA!!
Anyhow.....I'll send some pics of the job as we progress through it!
Later.....Cheryl

Titus obviously comes by his gardening abilities naturally, as we see "Uncle Titan's" Martha Stewart moment. Titus decided just today to uproot, which means grab by the center and snatch completely out of the ground, 2 thriving lily's, one dahlia, and a burning bush. He then decided to sprint around the yard, dirt flying everywhere, as a victory lap. (I was watching from the window) Obviously, he was very proud of what he had done. After I "kindly" explained to Titus that I do the gardening around here and his help is NOT needed he decided that due to his exertion, he would lounge in the Koi-less pond for a little cool down. Did I mention he pulled out all of the lily pad's, broke the fountain, and dislodged the pump?..... He accomplished this all in the time it took to go in and fix a fresh bucket of cool water for their playtime....Talented! Thanks Elaine, for breeding such impeccable gardening abilities in your red-headed boys! It is appreciated!!:D

Your garden is very spectacular, but your dog is absolutly to die for,, and the plants did.
Have fun and enjoy re planting for the fall.
Your boy is very nice.
