Did anyone look at this month's Gazette? Page 49, bottom right shows a soldier/canine trainer working with a German Shepherd Dog. When I saw the picture I thought, WOW, the military uses a Kong toy to train their dogs...then I looked closer. The photo certainly appears to be altered. The man's thumb is transparent and the Kong toy is not. It just made me think about why AKC felt the need to morph the picture. Ok, if he was carrying a swat stick, I can see editing it out (which probably is what happened). But to add in a toy that is sooo out of place... I am a realist. The military needs dogs to do jobs. HARD jobs. Not like guard the remote, or warm the sofa pillow, or sample food on counters. REAL jobs that save lives. To suggest that the military trains with softness in mind is like saying you used squirt guns in boot camp. At first, I thought this photo was funny. Now, not so much. Boy I hope is just my sloppy printed copy, and that they really DO train with Kongs. But if they don't, and the guy is wielding a stick, then so be it. As long as the dog helps our soldiers (both human and dog) kick butt, take names, and come back alive, then I'm ALL FOR IT!!!! What do you guys think? Real or Fake Kong image?:confused:
PS: I didn't think I could scan and post without AKC's permission.
