On the 29th of July, I had to take one of the hardest decisions in my life and with a heavy heart had to put my dear 'Pixe' to sleep at the age of 13.5 years.

Pixie was not only a Whippet, she was the dearest member of our canine family. Pixie, up until her last days, never ever gave us a moment of trouble; was the pretiest and most beautiful Whippet. She taught us many things. She gave a new meaning to love, friendship and was the perfect companion. Without ever having been given any formal training, she seemed to know exactly what to do and exactly what I was feeling. Without going on and on, I will just say that Pixie was an absolute gem. Most importantly, she was so gentle, warm and caring.

When my Son came to live with me at the age of nine, he was petrified of dogs, so much so that even Pixie gave him the jitters. Yet, it was her that helped him overcome his fears.

Ind Ch Salstar's Dainty Dancer was a granddaughter of Ch Shalfleet Showman of Courthill and I can proudly say that she was a worthy descendant of that magnificent specimen.

Pixie will be missed. Rest in Peace dear friend.

So sorry for your loss Minaz....It is never a good time to say goodbye. Just think of the memories you will have to recount when the hurt wears off and isn't it nice to know how much help she was to your son. You certainly know one of the reasons she was put with you. She sounds like she was certainly a great personality.

Words can never express the loss of a good dog. I have yet to figure out why the good lord gave dogs such a short life span in comparison to other animals. Perhaps it is to teach us to enjoy what we have when we have it.

In any event, you will always have this dog to live in your memories. What a wonderful opportunity you had to have this dog live with you and your family.

Sorry for your loss. I wish I could give this dog back to you.

Minaz,

I am so sorry for your loss. I know how hard it is to let them go, but I know they are ready at a certain point, when things get too hard for them. I believe they are grateful, even though your heart is broken.

I hope after a while you can remember more and more of the good times and the lively sweet Whippety girl she was: playing in the sun, napping, hoping for a treat, being kind to your son, just being a good good girl. She was Joy and she'd want you to remember her that way.

She was a Lucky Dog to have been so loved.
