Hi All,
Couple of pics of my nephews new puppy, Hank. Hank is a Rat Terrier. Rat Terriers are in the process of being AKC recognized. Neat little dogs! Very smart and highly trainable!

I recently fostered and rehomed two 18 month old rat terriers and they are very cool dogs! They are confident and tough for their size and NOT yappy at all - they don't shiver and quiver, they're just steady little dudes. I really liked them a lot.

Hank is a real doll baby - you're gonna have fun with him!

Sounds like a wonderful breed, the only problem as I see it is in the name “Rat Terrier.” Seems like that would be a bit of a PR problem for the breed from the get go. Rat Terrier sounds a bit rough, and too bluntly descriptive of the breed's purpose... along the lines of “Rodent Terminator” or “Vermin Extinguisher” ... "Terradicator" ... just doesn’t conjure up that warm fuzzy feeling of “Min Pin, “Peek” or “Yorkie.” And “Ratties” just has no curb appeal. They need a new name altogether... something a bit more warm and fuzzy ... or maybe just a reference to the most famous rodent on the planet Mickey Mouse... you could call them "Mickey's." :D Or M.T.'s (for Mouse Terriers) ... and if you say it really fast, they could be called "Mighties" for breed slang.

no eh?

Since many people don't have much of a RAT problem in their homes these days, perhaps we should look at a more conceptually correct name, such as Squeakie Terrier, Sock Terrier, or Adorable Grand Daughter's Sweet Breakfast Cereal Terrier (you know, when they have to dog thought the milk and cereal to get to the 'bunny at the bottom of the bowl'?)!:p:p:p

I love it.. and we could call them "Squeakie Toys"... or SBCT's (Sweet Breakfast Ceral Terriers) :D:D:D much better than "Ratties."
