For Sale - used zero turn riding mower - only driven by little old lady on Sundays (the rest of the time it was either in the pond, stuck in the corner of the house, rammed into a tree, up-ended on a stump, or missing a belt, tire, pulley or gear). May have a bit of "beyond normal" wear and tear. Inquire about price. :p

Actually, I just wanted to call people's attention to the fact that they can advertise things for sale here if they like. I really don't want to sell the mower... :)

Out of curiosity, Elaine what kind of mower do you use?

Elaine

It's a Husqvarna Zero Turn like this... only a few years older model.

Oh wait, I forgot, we got it last year. It's only a year old... it just looks like it's ten years old.:eek::eek:

Nice! I own a 52" hydro walk behind with a lovely sulky. It is way overkill for my yard!!! I spend much more time trimming. The striping it leaves on the yard is phenominal though!

I will try to get a picture of E1 driving this baby into the pond for you when I am visiting. :D
I'm quite sure she will do it at least once.;)

Ok...I wasn't sure where to place this post but thought this might work.

I am looking to place a lovely 12-18 month old orange kitty I have called Marmie(Marmalade...I know, not real original!) Bob and I have been supplementing her income this summer after she turned up IN my bird bath one morning.
I believe she was dumped off. I live on a very private dirt road with 5 other families and she belongs to none of them.
As much as we adore Marmie, we can't bring her into the house, Bob can't breath around cats. He is so allergic, it is scary.
I am sure she is spayed, and is a very sweet, purry little bundle of hair. Marmie is living in our garage and gets 2 squares a day along with some very tasty canned food and salmon. She delights in sneaking about teasing Vaako and Emma from the other side of the fence.
I am taking her in for all her vetting and to get a clean bill of health.

If anyone knows of anyone who would give her a loving and forever home, please shoot me an email.

I will try and get a photo of her and get it posted.

Thanks......Cheryl

Cheryl,

You might start a thread with Kitty needs forever home in the title... and put it here in the Classifieds.... so people can see from the thread titile that you have a kitty... or a Duck that does dry wall.

-E

A duck walks into a pub and orders a pint of beer and a ham sandwich.
The barman looks at him and says, 'Hang on! You're a duck.'

'I see your eyes are working,' replies the duck.

'And you can talk!' exclaims the barman.

'I see your ears are working, too,' says the duck. 'Now if you don't
mind, can I have my beer and my sandwich please?'

'Certainly, sorry about that,' says the barman as he pulls the duck's pint.

'It's just we don't get many ducks in this pub. What are you doing round
this way?'

'I'm working on the building site across the road,' explains the duck. 'I'm
a dry-waller.'

The flabbergasted barman cannot believe the duck and wants to learn more,
but takes the hint when the duck pulls out a newspaper from his bag and
proceeds to read it.

So, the duck reads his paper, drinks his beer, eats his sandwich, bids the
barman good day and leaves.

The same thing happens for two weeks.

Then one day the circus comes to town.

The ringmaster comes into the pub for a pint and the barman says to him
'You're with the circus, aren't you? Well, I know this duck that could be
just brilliant in your circus. He talks, drinks beer, eats sandwiches,
reads the newspaper and everything!'

'Sounds marvelous,' says the ringmaster, handing over his business card.

'Get him to give me a call.'

So the next day when the duck comes into the pub the barman says, 'Hey
Mr. Duck, I reckon I can line you up with a top job, paying really good
money.'

'I'm always looking for the next job,' says the duck. 'Where is it?'

'At the circus,' says the barman.

'The circus?' repeats the duck.

'That's right,' replies the barman.

'The circus?' the duck asks again. 'That place with the big tent?'

'Yeah,' the barman replies.

'With all the animals who live in cages and performers who live in
caravans?' says the duck.

'Of course,' the barman replies.

'And the tent has canvas sides and a big canvas roof with a hole in the
middle?' persists the duck.

'That's right!' says the barman.

The duck shakes his head in amazement, and says ...

'What the heck would they want with a drywaller??!'

We’ve had a lot of rain recently…the pond is as high as I’ve ever seen it, and the run-off has created quite a little river down by the barn. I really hadn’t appreciated just how wet it is down there until last night… I was mowing and got the mower stuck in the mud of this new river.

I turned the mower off and took a look around to consider my options… then I heard a plop into the water that sounded way too big to be a frog, said “screw this” and made Olympic record time dashing up to the house. I figured I’d let things dry out a bit today and then go get the 4-wheel one ton Dually pick up truck to pull the mower out. That all went pretty much according to plan, the mower is free, the only problem is that the One Ton Dually is now stuck up to the front axel in the mud. :(

Life on the farm is killing me. I'll take just about any offer on the mower, the truck, the farm... the horses... the whole kit and kaboodle.

What is the make and year of the truck?

Your next step should be to let the ground completely dry, fire up the tractor and pull the truck out. If you get the tractor stuck, rent a dozer. If you get the dozer stuck then you will have some very expensive landscape ornaments!!!!!

The truck is a 2003 Dodge quad cab diesel dually with a Hemi. The ground may not be dry till next spring... not sure I can wait that long.

So here’s the call I had to make:

“Judy, is J.D. around?”

“No, he’s delivering pumpkins down to Rockingham. Should be back about 8:00. Why, what’ up?”

“Well, the mower got stuck in the mud down by the barn… the good news is that I got it free all by myself, the bad news is that now the truck is stuck.”

Haven’t heard Judy laugh so hard in a long time, not since I drove the mower into the pond.

J.D will bring the tractor over tomorrow… if that doesn’t work he’ll “call a wrecker.” Not exactly sure what a wrecker is, but I think I’m doing a swell job of wreckin the truck without any professional help.

:DCan you please please please post some photos of this?:D

Be careful!!!! If the straps or chains break when trying to retrieve your truck the tractor operator might come out of it missing a head.

Wish I were closer, I would certainly try to help!

Andy, as always, you make me laugh. Hand to god, I never once thought of getting a photo of this exasperating situation :D:D:D but since you asked, I'll run down there as soon as it gets light.

okay, here's the truck... this morning... it's hard to see in this photo, but the truck's left front wheel is in mud up to the axel... the ground is pretty wet down there... but if there is time before J.D. comes I'll get a close up of it.

That is not as bad as I had imagined.:D I pictured a truck covered with mud!

Elaine

Oh sure… I can imagine what you were visualizing. Actually, had I noticed how soft the ground was, I would not have been out there with either the mower or the truck. The ground looked fine… but the soil under the sod was completely saturated, which is why the mower and the truck got stuck.

J.D. was here this morning with his tractor and we pulled the truck out of the mud. Came unstuck just like a warm knife through butter (which is about how it got stuck in the first place). All was good, J.D. even stayed to fill in the holes the truck had made. Did I mention how much I love J.D.? The man is a saint, so is his wife.

The truck was almost out of fuel, so I drove into town, mostly on fumes. For some reason the gas station was completely out of Diesel… but a nice police man (who was taking a coffee-doughnut break) called the station in the next town over, they had diesel… then some complete stranger volunteered that he had a can for diesel… and that he’d drive me over to the next town. I bought $20 worth of diesel, came back and we tried to pour it in the truck… small problem, the man’s “can for diesel ” was actually a 5 gallon bucket, with no spout. We got about 50 cents of diesel in the truck's tank and the rest was on the pavement and all over us (our shoes, hands and pants). But there was just enough to get me back to the station in the next town with the diesel… I filled the truck, and I’m home now… smelling of diesel… I’m pooped and the day has just begun. This farm life is killing me.

I thought you said the truck has a Hemi??? You mean a Cummins? ;)

Make sure you keep that Cummins as long as you can! The newer diesels do not get good MPGs. That 5.9L Cummins will last a long time with proper maintenance. The Dodge automatic transmission will require some love as it ages though.

The new 6.4L Powerstroke, not to be confused with the 6.0 Powerstroke, can get around 17 MPG if you take the particulate filter out of the exhaust. The newer 6.7L Cummins has a lot of soot issues in the turbo. The GM Duramax is a decent diesel engine as well. But I have some trouble with the idea of putting aluminum heads on a diesel. In due time they will blow head gaskets and crack. It is physics. There is no way around the differing expansion rates of iron and aluminum. Not to mention the extreme pressures that the aluminum head is under in a diesel environment. Aluminum does offer better heat dissipation though......That equates to higher boost psi and more power due to lower exhaust gas temps.

If I had 50+ grand to blow on a new diesel truck I would have to go with the 2007 and later Ford Superduty. The chasis is superior to the other big two. Plus I casted the engine block and heads.:D:D

Arthur may have considered all of that data... and which truck would pull a horse trailer the best, me, I thought it looked cute :D

Years ago I took a Skip Barber Driving course.. at Laguna Seca… in Monterey … was a fantastic week of fun, got to drive just about every vehicle that Dodge makes, got to drive a Dodge Viper in an autocross race. … came away realizing that for each of us, there is that one vehicle… for me it is my Dodge One Ton Dually…. I love it… it suits me… and no one ever argues with me on the road… no one ever cuts me off… and when I need to change lane, I change lanes. :)

I married my wife because she could drive Ol' Blue. She somehow wrestled this beast down the road.

It is a 1969 3/4 ton Chevrolet. It has absolutely no options. Manual steering, manual brakes, very very stiff clutch, no radio, and the bouncy ride was standard. It has a 4.56:1 rear axle ratio. No overdrive of course. It sips gasoline at the rate of about 8 MPG. I am in the works of building an engine that runs on ethanol. I can bore you for hours on the details of this, but I will spare you the specs.:D I am also building a computer for the fuel injection retrofit. An overdrive transmission is also on the way. I have hopes of getting 25mpg on E85 which is 25-40% cheaper than 87 octane gas right now. The truck will be set up to only run on E85. This will not be a flex fuel vehicle.

If you'd like I could bore you with the reasons why flex fuel vehicles are a complete waste of time......:D
