Can anyone help Carol find the perfect dobe girl rescue? She is the owner of the dog Logan in memoriam thread, and also in the welcome thread as Lou's Mom. Her home in the mountains has several fenced acres, free access in and out, all the sofa time they can handdle with a human that has been in dobes for a gazillion years. She did agility, tracking, show, bed sharing, wild bunny butt chasing, trips in the land Cruiser, hiking, and the all important "generating snacks" task. Hey folks....can we help her out?
Send your responses to me, and I'll forward them to her (cuz she's always out doing something!)

I was telling the universe that Will & I wanted an older 4legged lady. Somebody sweet & kind, who'd play w/Will & help us raise a pup sometime next year.

Came home from work to find this walking down the street. She was friendly & kind, graciously took the water I gave her & worked her magic with it.

Guess I forgot the important part -- "Dear doG, may Will & I have an older DOBERgirl?"

Brenna, I am still well medicated so feel free to unload!!!:D Thanks to the upper dry socket I get mouthwash in my sinus cavity every time I rinse. Not fun. I use Crest Prohealth which is not alcohol based but painful just the same.

Poor Ms Blair was allegedly turned in to the Animal Shelter b/c she was a gift & the owners couldn't afford to feed her.

Her appearance & former place of residence (sneaked a peek at the paperwork) suggests that she was a BYB brood bitch, including elbow calluses on all 4 corners. She was hiding from kennel noise in the outside run, came nicely w/the volunteer, trembled throughout my visit time, let me inspect teeth, bite, ears & toes, and let me give her a kiss g-bye. When visit was over she came sit w/me to prolong our time, rolled eyes at the vol but allowed him to leash her, and walked nicely on leash back to the kennel.

I'll pick her up this afternoon, no pix til my digi cam comes back from repair.

I'll post an update once we've had some time together at home, while she heals from her spay.

Thats absolutely wonderful news and hope all works out well.
Six is a fabulous age and Blair sounds like a very wise girl.
I am sure she will be glad to leave the shelter behind and ready for a new
Mom.

Still no pix, sorry guys. maybe a couple cell phone shots next week.

Ms Bella, the porker dobermama formerly known as Blair, is doing quite well. Her coat is coming along nicely, and she's a big sweetie. 1st night Will & I were serenaded by her lil piggy snores from the crate. 2nd evening when it was her turn for human time she claimed the couch, and slept there most of the night. Will is wise enuf in the ways of older women that when I let him out he ran the long way around the couch to go outside for twilight barking.

Bella was kinda confused about where to potty, but she has it all figured out now. She's the first dober I've ever had to didn't try to claim the entire bed while sleeping!! She is still hesitant about going for walkies w/us, but by yesterday was helping Will protect our yard from a neighbor's visitors -- her bark is much more scary than his.

Just a few days ago I finally saw her nubby wagging, and when she's happy she has the cutest little trot... Will hasn't convinced her to play with him yet, and not from lack of looking his most handsome [on tippy toes w/natural ears as tall as they can go & nubby wagging a mile a minute] but they get along very well. She got tired of him snagging the bones she tried to save for later so she spent 20 minutes trying to hide one -- underneath the aquarium, behind the woodstove, behind the tv (where there isn't a 'behind'), and finally settled on a spot near the computer. Naturally he found it in mere seconds of looking for it.

So, everybody is happy, and I'm looking forward to learning more about her as she realizes that she's at her forever home.

This whole thing is going so well I'm fantasizing about getting another, and opening an Old Dober's Home. ;) Then I remember how much work it was feeding and traveling with 13 dobers, and come back down to reality. :p

thanks for all your good (and funny!) thoughts. the karma is greatly appreciated. :D

Keep us posted with how it goes… I’d bet your new girl settles in beautifully once she realizes that she is “home” and loved. :)

got my digi camera back, so I'll post some pix this weekend. She's lost enough weight that her muscle tone is beginning to show, and her tummy is starting to tighten up nicely.

I think Bella knows she's Home now: now wanting to sleep in the middle of the bed, tried plucking her doggie bed yesterday, and she's playing with Will. Startled him when she ducked & ran UNDER his belly while playing rompem stompem  She's got a nice little boogie when she hears me ask her to come inside rather than bark at the fence.

Today is my 1st day back at work after getting her, so I'm curious to see how she handles me being gone. Bath-time is coming later this week, toenails too...

Now if I could just convince her that going on walkies with Will & I does not mean she isn't coming back home.

How time flies...

In chrono order, sorta, startn w/her mug shot. I can just see the spirit coming back into her eyes in these pix.

She finally believes that a ride in the Land Cruiser will be round trip, and we've discovered that she'll tolerate a couple kissies from the human, but too many & she is quite feline in her disapproval. She & Will play rompem stompem several times a day; she was worried that the Big Dogs (horses) across the street were going to hurt me when I went over to help catch 'em; and she asks for morning belly rubs every day -- if they don't last long enough I'm not allowed to get up :oooph:.

Still working on longer trips in the Dobermobile (had lunch w/a friend after walkies & Bella was very worried we weren't going home, ever), and she's quite keen to make sure I don't forget where I parked her limo when we go walkies in the woods.

My first pound puppy since elementary school, and I got a winner! :D

The pics are lovely! What a pretty pretty girl!
Love the ones where she looks to be smiling. I would say this girlie finally knows she's home.

From those pictures I'd say Bella KNOWS she has landed squarely on her four paws. I too loved the smiling picture.

Cuz her buddy & playmate is gone. The next day she got happy about going for a ride, but as she approached the dobermobile she realized he wasn't around to go with, and ran back to the gate asking to be back in her yard. Couple days later she was happy to go walkies, so it'll just take a bit of time.

Bouncing back fairly well -- actually asked me to play with her yesterday. Then she apparently remememberd something from her former life and put herself in time out. :(

She's interested in the squeaky ball, saunters off to get it & then stashes it where I can't lose it again. Might try putting some jumps up in the yard & she what she thinks about that. She can fly over things on our woods walks, so I know her body can do it.

It'll be interesting getting to know her one on one.

These rescue's are tough as we sometimes will never know their past and its hard to work on their issues when we have no clue what caused them.
Slow going is all you can do and I am sure its tough on her as well losing her best friend:(
She has to know she is loved and safe at this point and that she truly is in her forever home.

I'm still having faith in her inherent doberness: we went from didn't wanna load in the landcruiser to only walking 50' from it to hour long woods adventures, so I'll just keep reinforcing the good things, and letn her tell me when it's too much.

You should be proud of the steps you have taken with her.
Regardless of how small you may think they are, she is still taking them:)
Keep us posted. I love to hear the rescue stories.
