Lili sent me these photos of Brentano and Bella... she works from home, they love being by her side. You get an idea of how Brentano and Bella spend their days... as you can see, life is tough. :)

They do actually get up and play once in a while... I will try to catch a shot of them moving sometime. :):):)

A couple of the photos remind me of Salvador Dali’s “The Persistence of Memory” or Gary Larson's Boneless Chicken Ranch cartoon http://www.lechatnoirboutique.com/products.php?cat=40 :D :D :D

You're right Andy! We've got to do something to save them from this horrendous life style:D

Heard from Lili about a week ago...she sent a few new photos of Brentano and Bella... and of herself and her family. I notice immediately that Brentano and Bella have the look of an old married couple. :) They seem devoted to each other… and more than a tad comfortable with life. :D

People sometimes ask about placing older dogs… they wonder if the dog will bond with the new family, and vice – versa. If we go by the examples of Tungsten and Brentano, the answer is a resounding YES!!!

About placing older dogs, and breeders collecting dogs, here are my thoughts: it is easy to fall in love with each and every dog we produce. Ask Bob and Cheryl, ask Sheila… ask me, ask most any breeder. At times there is the temptation to keep one too many. I can tell you from experience that collecting dogs is never in the dog’s best interest. Dogs, especially Dobermans, need the full attention of their humans, and that is simply not possible when you start to collect dogs. No one has the energy or time to devote to 7-9 dogs. It is not possible to lead a normal life when the numbers get that high. When the numbers start to get into the double digits:eek:, everyone suffers, most especially the dogs. :(:(:(

Brentano was over four years old when he went to live with Lili, Brett and Bella. We loved him dearly, he had plenty of attention and human interaction here, but he was simply one of too many dogs, so we agreed to let him go to his own special home, to bond with his own special family. We felt it was in Brentano’s best interest that he have a family of his own.

Lili can supply the details, and there may indeed have been a few issues with the transmission from life here to life with Lil and Brett… but look at the photos… Lili and Brett are the right home for Brentano. He is part of an active family, he gets out in the world and gets to join in the party (if you look very closely in the photo where everyone in the raft has their hands in the air, you can just make out Brentano with four paws in the air too). Brentano is loving life.. .you can see it in his eyes.

But first you must either pry them open at home (aftera weekend like the photos above) OR pull the Doggles of their face cuz the dogs are diving the boat! I wish I could upload image with my smart phone! Faith and Tungsten look like twins of Brentano and Bella!

It is so nice to have a friendly family of aunties and uncles. I know all of you feel as I do about these wonderful dogs. I am so in love with them it is beyond words. Glad you liked the pictures. We all had fun tubing that day. It was Easter weekend and the water is still chilly but you can see they were having a great time. I have only had Brentano a short time but it feels as if he has always been here. I wish I did have those first four years but it certainly shows how well he was raised. He came to me as a perfect house mate. The only thing he has ever done was join Ms Bella in mutilating my slippers one evening when we were trying to leave her out of her crate while we were out. I have never seen a pair of slippers turn into so many tiny little pieces. And I am sure they were both enjoying them. Needless to say Bella still gets crated when we are out for more than 15 minutes. Brentano has never had to be in a crate here but he did go take a nap in Bella's in the beginning. There is something to say about getting an older dog. You don't have to wear yourself out with them, they just seem to adjust and fit. My next dog will be a puppy just because these two were not but that will be a long time from now. I agree with you Elaine, I have had 5 dogs and I do not want to do that again. Two is my self set limit and they get all the love and attention they can ask for. Even Brentano who is a love sponge. Some day later when I am ready, I hope you are still breeding because i will be first in line. I would love a puppy to raise and show but who knows. Maybe we will be too decrepit by then.;)

I concur. MyBella has lived with us since October, so that's only 6 months now, and after learning that car rides are always round trip, she is VERY much a natural part of my doberfamily. She distracts Will from whatever bone he is softening up for her by asking him to play romp 'm stomp 'm, and is quite often the first one back when I recall them during our off-leash walks in the woods.

Sometimes I forgot that she didn't grow up with me... :sigh:. It's almost like a second chance w/my Nyxiepix...
