This is not remotely dog related, but Mr. Newman was more than a gifted actor and director, he gave back so much of his time and energy through his "Newman's Own" sponsored charities and the Hole in the Wall camps for children with cancer... all of which helped to make this world a better place. There are very few men like him, his passing should be noted. He will be missed.

He will be missed. His work outside of acting was special.

I had a chance to meet him when I was 13 or so. I was in line at the Devon Horse Show, his daughter rode and he was there to see her. He was very sweet to a little girl that was totally inamoured by him and could hardly take her eyes off of him.
My mother nearly killed me for not getting an autograph or telling her, until after the show was over and we were trailering home, that he stood next to me at the hot dog stand and smiled at me.

Let me get this straight, you looked into those beautiful blue eyes. If I were you, I would never wash my eyeballs again. :D

Seriously, if it was just about looks or just about talent, we’d probably not remember him much, but he gave back so much through his charities… he improved the lives of so many many people… he walked the walk in his personal life, loved his family … loved his country, overall he embodied most every value we all hold dear and admire.

Yep and at the ripe age of 13, he was just dazzling to me!
I was fishing around in my pockets for money and he was standing next to me. I felt someone looking at me and I looked up from sneakers to jeans, to tee shirt into those eyes. He had a worn out white baseball cap on. He looked down at me and gave me the slyest smile. I suddenly realized who he was,I couldn't speak, I just smiled back and uncrumpled my 5 bucks.
We stepped up to the stand together, he order french fries, a coke and me my hot dog and coke. We had something in common.....we both liked coke!

The person behind the counter said, "Thank you Mr. Newman", we got our food and off he went into the crowd back to wherever, off I went to the barns to eat and pick my horse's hooves out.
I remember it like it was yesterday! To bad for my mom I didn't remember it after picking feet....she was all about Paul!! LOL!

I have always admired Mr. Newman and his charitable work. And those blue eyes.:D

Along the same lines, a charity I have admired and often donated to is called the Smile Train. They repair cleft palates and lips for free on little kids who are teased, scorned and taunted, who can't eat properly and are often not fed, or hidden in the back of the house because they are considered cursed.

It only costs $245 to fix a little kid's life AND the surgeons who do this teach the local surgeons how to do this 25 minute, but life changing operation. Then THEY can do the surgery for free themselves. I donate because 100% of the funds go to the kids. (Not huge amounts, just when I can.) All their expenses are paid by a foundation. So today I got a little thank you note, and down at the bottom are some pictures of some of their BOD. And there is Cindy McCain! She might get paid but I really doubt it, and I would bet she donates quite a bit. But quietly.

I like that.

Check out the before and after of Angela Joy..........from no life to sky's the limit in 25 minutes. Is she adorable or what?

I admire people who stand up for what they believe in. Newman was active in politics, he even made Nixon’s Enemy List.

Scary isn’t it?

Newman contributed roughly $250 million to charity… he had the Scott Newman Foundation … and the Hole in the Wall Gang camp for kids with cancer... he did so much that was positive… was married for 50 years… embodied every value we cherish… and yet he made the list of enemies of the president of the United States.
