All
I have to share a bit about my day.
I do owner intake for DAR&E which simply means I deal with owners who want to surrender their dobes for one reason or another.
We have a surrender mailbox, a surrender line as well.
My first call today was regarding a gentlemen who wanted to get info on vets in our area that do ear "docking". I returned the call and left my phone number so this should be interesting one to say the least. Ear "docking". ........
My surrender box today included an e-mail regarding an albino and rust female in need.
I go thru the normal questions of getting more information on the dog and we begin going back and forth about this albino and rust doberman. I thought she may be mistaken and ask her if this could possibly be a fawn and was assured this was not the case. She was told since the sire was rust, and the "dame" was albino, the dobe was def albino and rust. sooooooooooooo
Then we begin going thru more about the "albino and rust" gal and ask my normal questions of her being spayed, UTD, on HW preventative etc.
I was told the vet refused to spay the dog because she was albino. We go thru another series of e-mails and I ask her if there were medical reasons as the dog being albino would have nothing to do with vet not spaying her.
I was assured this was the case because the vet was concerned about the "ANASTASIA" . Took me a quick second to figure out what she was referring to.........sigh........
E in DAR&E is for education so I hope our efforts today werent in vain.
Please note the items in quotation marks ARE NOT spelling errors on my part but actual info from owner.
As an FYI, the reason the gal wants to rehome this dog is she is attacking their 12 year old dalmation.
DAR&E typically rec's from about 6-10 calls a day on our dareline, and thankfully many are interested in adoption, but sadly the majority are to surrender. I thought these two specific calls were interesting to say the least
This time of year is especially hard and is considered the "holiday dump".
Add into that the horrible state of the economy and we are building up to a horrendous season.
The many calls we are rec'ing are def of a very common thread and that are home foreclosures.
Lets hope all my calls tomorrow are to adopt.

I so admire and appreciate your devotion to rescue. You guys are out there, day in and day out, year after year. Your commitment to our breed is amazing and inspiring. I would guess that over the years you’ve probably seen it all… from straight forward abuse to something as ugly and bizarre as the theft of Stella. I don’t know how you guys do it and keep your connection to the positive aspects of human nature. Is it possible that those “docked” ears and the rare “albino and rust” Doberman calls provide much needed levity and comic relief.

Thank you Elaine for the kind words.
Comic relief? I think we got that several years ago when a gentlemen called and wanted to surrender his doberman because the doberman "watched" while he and his wife had sex. And he was serious....I swear to heavens you just can't make this stuff up. Suppose he never heard of closing the door?
We still laugh about this one after all these years.
This am I rec'd a sad one from a 3 year old child being bitten because he kicked the dog. And while the "parent" acknowledges his child did wrong, the dog will be dumped. I do think it best this dog gets out of this house so he won't suffer any additional abuse.
If this were my parent, many moons ago, and I kicked our family dog, I would have had my behind tanned and good.
Yes, Stella theft was absolutely the worst abuse. To take a beloved dog from a very caring owner was horrendous.
This court case goes to trial Dec 16 as an fyi.
