Brenna I have a friend in Texas that has three pups. Top breeding but they are white and black and white. No brindles. I know he is keeping one of the females, there are two and then there is one male.

Unfortunately all the available pups are spoken for. I do plan to breed again in about a year. I also can point you in the right direction for frenchie pups. Thanks for all the kind words. Larry Bates lbates2001@aol.com

So Larry, what’s it like living with Frenchies? Are they clean and smart? Does the breed have lots of health problems? Does Martha Stewart show up at the Frenchie Nationals and cater the event? IF this anti-cropping anti-docking thing goes nation wide, lots of Dobe folks may be looking for a new breed. :o So, tell us, in addition to the breed itself, what are the Frenchie people like? :)

Elaine, Thanks for asking about the Frenchies and their owners. Frenchies are great little dogs, but have the same basic problems as the other flat nosed breeds. Narrow nares, elongated palet, etc. The two major health issues are allergies, and spine issues. All things considered though, they are a much healthier breed than most (especially dobes). They are a joy to live with and posses an almost human like expression. In fact, sometimes it is downright spooky. They are absolute clowns, but can carry grudges for up to a few days if you piss them off.
Interesting that you mention Martha Stewart. She is always ringside at Westminster and quite helpful to other frenchie folks. Another well known person who owns and shows her own frenchies is Patty Hearst Shaw (who is always at the national at the end of a lead). The main reason I went from Dobes to Frenchies was the people who own them. I became somewhat disenchanted with some Dobe folks I met, in fact I found a faction to be the most hateful humans I have ever experienced. Along with that, and the fact that I was looking for a breed that was easier to finish, and leaned heavily toward owner handlers. It has been great fun to meet everyone in the Frenchie world, and they have all been supportive of my efforts.

This is the sire to the litter (Picture used on the cover of Just Frenchies). BTW my bitch is Ch. Petit Motif's Mileymania.

I am very sorry you have that impression… and that experience of Dobe people. Really wish I could say your impressions were unique. I think some of us here would be adding in a few more adjectives. :( Maybe what we see is simply a reflection of too many people too deeply entrenched in neurotic self interest. It's as though they no longer see the forest for the trees. They have completely lost touch with the great attributes of the Dobe breed that once attracted them. Or maybe the problem is that if you work at it, you can get away with just about anything in dogs, so people get used to getting away with stuff, and they just get bolder and bolder … and uglier and uglier. Whatever the origins, the behavior does get pretty darn hard to ignore.
About Frenchies, I notice that the ears stand without cropping, and I see dew claws… is the tail natural too?

The frenchie ears stand at about 3 to 4 weeks. I have never known one not to stand, and the rule of thumb typically is the BIGGER THE BETTER since the bat ear is unique to the breed.
I hate the dew claws. (they also have ugly feet). Some people clip the dew claws, but honestly these pups are so darn hard to keep alive most breeders do not clip because it is just one more way to potentially lose a pup. That being said, my next litter (in about a year) I will clip.
The tail is natural. You dont want too much tail or too little.

I just love your pictures of the Frenchies.
I agree on the Doberman world. It can take you back a few steps. And its difficult to compete in it. You can throw a lot of money away for its politics.
I had a bulldog handler tell me that they are very sensitive dogs and can die rather easily. Have you found this true?
My mother use to breed Boston Terriers and I remember the cleft palets when some were born. Short muzzle dogs have their problems too.
But those Frenchies are sure cute and I wouldn't mind having one.

They are great dogs. Easy to handle expecially in the ring. Lots of owner handlers finishing their own dogs, and even judges seem to love putting up dogs who are owner handled (well maybe not for breed, but definitely for the points). Really a great group of people too. Always having happy hour, parties, and mixers after the shows.
They must be selectively bred, because you can get clefts as well. You cannot breed these as close as some people do dobes. They do share one attribute with dobes... they are extreemly CLEAN. They dont like being dirty or messy.
