Happy Anniversary DAR&E !
https://sites.google.com/site/dobenet/
11 YEARS AGO this month Athy Conigliaro started DAR&E.:)
Nearly 1300 dobermans have come thru our program and been rehomed.
I am thankful for DAR&E for giving me 4 wonderful kids over the years and I am sure those same 4 kids are thankful for DAR&E and in being in a home that adores them!

WOW.
Quick, somebody figure out how many points that'd be on the Md circuit, so we can calculate how many champions those 1300 rehomed dobers could've supported.
I know, fuzzy math, since rescue dobers don't compete in the show circuit, but in my blonde logic, they are an indirect result of it.
Or, different math, how many toenails trimmed, swept up doberhair, or cubic yards of dog food byproduct that is...
Congrats to DARE & all the dober-saviors out there. :D

Those numbers are truly staggering arent they?
So many of the dobes we have taken from shelters and information on why they were dumped we will never know.
My own two that were pulled from the shelters were one done so because of to much energy and destruction (duh, 7 month old pup) and another no time. Those two excuses we hear over and over again.
As our inake coordinator I feel as tho I have heard them all.........sigh.....
We have had so many bizarre reasons over the years but none more bizarre than the gent who surrendered because he felt his dobe was staring at him when he and his wife were "alone" if you get my drift:)
Those 1300 represent dobes we were able to help but can you imagine the numbers that perhaps we never heard about or were unable to help? How sad is that?

The breed owes a debt of gratitude to Athy… she is easily one of the most intelligent, capable accomplished women I have ever had the pleasure to know. I have seen first hand how effectively and graciously she deals with adversity and the absurdity of the fungi on the internet who attack her. She is a role model for all of us and I am proud to call her a friend. Happy Anniversary DAR&E.

Elaine, thank you so much for these incredibly kind words. I and several others founded DAR&E over a decade ago because there was a need in the Maryland/DC area for Doberman rescue support. I don't think we ever dreamed that we grow as we did.
As Kathleen mentioned, we average about 100 Dobes per year - sometimes a couple more, sometimes a couple less. We generally have between 90 and a hundred volunteers or so. We've had our "ups and downs" over the years and there is no doubt that the last two years have been wonderful for the group. We sincerely hope that we can continue to be successful so that DAR&E will be there for the homeless Dobes in Maryland, DC and Virginia.
Thank all of you for your support. It is greatly appreciated.
Athy
