I was wondering what people's thoughts and experiences are towards showing in an UKC show? Also, would you recommend it.

Thanks!

I have often thought about this. I know in Toy Fox Terriers the standard is a bit different. It has been awhile since I looked at it so don't quote me. The UKC standard allows for larger TFT's. I personally like them on the smaller side.

I await responses to this post with enthusiasm.

Having only shown in one UKC show, I am for sure no expert, but my experience was all good. :):)
No professional handlers allowed, much more relaxed atmosphere, you can enter the day of the show. On most show days there are two shows, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
Just a fun time with your dog. It is possible to get a championship in one weekend! :D:D
In that very first show, my dobe Nash and I won Reserve Best In Show. I didn't even know that there was a Reserve BIS until the judge handed us the rosette!!
I would recomend it!

Seems to me that UKC shows are a plus all the way around. Everyone who participates seems to have positive things to say about them. Not exactly sure, but I think that Tracy (who owns Rush and Titus) has enjoyed UKC shows for years… they are a great training venue and a fun day all round. At the very least, they are good practice for AKC shows. Seems to me that a lot of AKC fans simply don’t know much about UKC shows… and therefore probably don’t have the same regard for a UKC win… which is a bit unfortunate. I am in that category, I simply don’t know much about them, have never shown at one, don’t know how they are advertised, don’t know if there is a website of results, have no clue who judges, how judges are chosen or what qualifications the judges have. In my “perfect world” we’d all have time to show at UKC shows just for the fun and experience. Which reminds me, our M.C.K.C George Alston Handling Clinic is coming up again… always great fun.
