You guys are absolutely amazing… thank you for sharing Zane’s story and thank god Zane found his way to DAR&E. Again and again I am impressed with your commitment to our Doberman breed. You all at DAR&E are simply off the charts. Thank you for once again picking up the pieces for owners and breeders alike who are falling well short of their responsibilities to the precious animals they own and or breed. I truly hope that Zane’s skin graft is a success and that he finds a forever home. :)

Thank you Elaine
We are all most hopeful that Zane will do well. While he is going thru this process he is in a foster home being loved and adored with several dobie playmates, horses, cats etc.
His foster is dedicated in taking him back and forth to vet, tests, etc, etc and all the while loving him like he were her own.
I have upmost respect for our fosters that love these dogs until their forever homes come along.
We have some of the most amazing dogs that come thru our program regardless of their pasts. Some unfortunately never can conquer their demons
but others rebound to make wonderful pets.
I shake my head and wonder how folks could have given up on some of the most wonderful creatures.
Thanks for kind words and please keep Zane in your thoughts.

my Nyx once pulled out metal staples from her foot, so here's to determined dobers. now if we can just convince him that bandages taste awful.... :p

I agree. He had several safety precautions in place but he was just so determined.

Some of you have been following Zane's story and asking about the skin graft.
While we were most hopeful Zane was going to recover and be able to keep his leg I am sad to say yesterday the leg had to be amputated. :(
He is now recovering in his foster home.
We are all sad that altho DAR&E tried its best, we were unsuccessful in keeping the leg but most successful in saving Zane's life.
Zane's chances at the shelter were very slim as they just don't have the resources.

Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers as he recovers.

Sad to hear he lost the leg...

Glad he's got a good place in which to recover, and that it's a rear insteada front.

Pix when you get a chance?

Just brought in a foster w/badly healed trauma to left shoulder: fractured scapula & elbow at a minimum. She goes to an orthopedic vet in a couple weeks: even though she has minimal range of motion the leg works quite well as a balance point, and doesn't slow her down much.

Sending Zane good (snowy) dober thoughts...

Thank you
I hope only the best for your doberrescue as well.
Its heartbreaking to see these kids in such bad shape but thankful we can help them.
Zane's foster sent an update that Zane is pretty out of it of course, and on some pretty heavy duty pain meds.
This boy is a darling with personality plus.

We brought in a severely emaciated HW positive boy yesterday. He rec'd his first HW treatment today. Romeo is his name.
Then we had Danny boy come in as well. He was hit with a car. Young male, skinny. Thankfully just pretty banged up and broke off a few teeth and bruised but will recover, thankfully.
It never ends.................sigh.

It is with unbridled joy I can tell everyone that Zane has found his forever home.
He was adopted by a previous DAR&E adopter and Zane will now share his new home with a female dobe to play with (and boss him around) and also a parrot as well as a new Mommy.
His new Mom is head over heels for this very special boy.
