Most all of the top winning and/or top producing Dobermans in Breed history are in the first four generations of these puppy’s pedigree, including Kafka, Eddie, Dagger, Inaqui and Monty.

Bob and Cheryl, what a beautiful litter. I would think they have made all of your hard work and devotion so worth while.
I like that you included that most impressive pedigree with your announcement.
Anyone who you accept as a new owner will be very lucky indeed.

Congratulations from
E2, the Almighty Q and the lovable bossy Alme (proud Aunt and Uncle of all 9:D)

Thank you to everyone for all the warm thoughts and kind words. We are so proud of this litter and their parents. it is a very exciting time for us!

Congrads...Looks like someone is a Dominant Black?

Is this your first litter debut?

The work gets better; and, you get to know all these new individuals along the way.

Looks like a nice pedigree to me. Lucky will be those who get one of these. I bet you have them all sold quickly.

Great! pedigree. :)If you have a show bitch in the litter I know of someone that is waiting for me to have another litter, could be waiting a long time. They have one from one of my other litters. They are woulderful people.

GOOD LOOKING PHOTO AND FABULOUS DNA AND GENES !!!

I still have a lovable photo of Longres' Feinbrand that I keep because I fell in love with him when he was a little guy. He is magnificent now!

Viewing this litter evokes my suppressed desire (if not unfinished passion) for getting a black make puppy. Hmmmmm ... :)

Thanks Aunt Tina!

This is all pretty exciting stuff! Nothing and no one can dampen our excitement over these little darlings. We are on cloud nine!
We are very proud of their mom and dad and we can't wait to watch these puppies grow and be the wonderful dogs their parents are!

Listen, I can't take any credit for the art work with the announcement, it is all Grandma Elaine who's talent took it next level.
She is just amazing!

Bob and Cheryl,

We're so happy for you!! What a great ad.. just gorgeous.. there's kind of a quiet sophistication about it. Emma looks great... she looks like she is enjoying being a mom. Vaako, of course, is his handsome self.... he must be very proud! Elaine is so right. This time passes so quickly.. the next few weeks will be so much fun.. relax and enjoy every minute of it. You both deserve it!

They will be on their way Andy!! Promise!

Bob is the tech manager around here. If something is organic, has fur, paws or hooves it falls under my direct abilities.....not so much with things that have buttons and lights! :)
I get frustrated fast and my rather quick temper with tech items gets the better of me...Bob keeps me away from electronic items!

Anyhow, yesterday was "admin business" around the homestead, so today I will needle him to handle the photos!

Later.....Cheryl

This is the funniest set of pictures we have gotten. The Orange Collar male was bored I think and started moving around the whelping box, then he decided he was going to try and get to the nipple as it was close, that is where the trouble began for him....LOL
Cheryl and I were calling it the sneak attack gone wrong, I think he under-estimated the angle on the descent.....LOL You have to pull them sequence!!! Hope you enjoy!!! He gets an "A" for effort!!!

Having been parents and now grandparents.. we prefer the latter … Bob and Cheryl do a spectacular job and we get to sit back and enjoy… and still get a full night’s sleep. No doubt about it, grand parenting is the way to go!!! Now, if we could just figure a way to bottle the puppy breath and the warmth and sweetness of their little bodies snuggling up to a cheek…. it’d be perfect. :) :) :) :)

doberdogsfd
02-02-2009, 07:04 PM
Elaine and Arthur have been wonderful through every aspect of this life event. We couldn't have asked for better mentors and as for grandparents they are awesome!
These little guys are lucky to have their support and love as we are.

They tell you the truth when no one else will and when you do not want to hear it. :) They support you when it seems the craziest moment of your life and they are unconditionally commited to the success of these little guys. Pretty much the definition of Grandparents.

Hey thanks.. but could you throw in there somewhere that I stll look good in a bikini? :D

No eh! :o

I might have to back away from a Lindt Chocolate habit I've acquired recently... Hmmm... bikini - chocolate... chocolate - bikini ... hmmm? I have absolutely no muscle what so ever, it’s amazing that I can locomotate (my word, don’t bother looking it up, it ain’t there). I think I am at about 98.6 percent body fat. What I need is for someone to announce that the Chinese are putting melamine in Lindt chocolate... that would work for me, sort of the way Betty and I dropped Peanut M&M's like a hot rock when they appeared on some internet list of tainted food.:p

doberdogsfd
02-02-2009, 07:30 PM
What a damn shame about peanut M+Ms...I used the excues they had a solid protien source them!
Try Black and Black Organic chocolate...to DIE FOR!!! I do not like chocolate that much. their dark chocolat eis sinful.

Ok..you are not 98% BF....so just stop and go put your bikini on!

Hey Pheobe!

Yep, sure is. I am a huge Vampire Chronicles fan, Ann Rice's collection of books. There isn't one I haven't read and read again. I also love her Witch Chronicles, therefore the Blackwood.

I am in touch with my Goth side.

Vaako's name is from the Riddick Series, Pitch Black, Chronicles of Riddick. Lord Vaako was a warrior in the last film.

They are doing wonderfully! They grow so quickly. We are taking photos constantly. Bob has started to camcorder them. The puppy antics are hysterical!! They remind me of a troupe of comedians : )

The little darlings have discovered their voices.Vaako was outside the dutchdoor and one of boys heard him......he stood up and barked as big and hard as he could......he fell down of course. But he let Dad know he was there and in full baby Vaako voice!!

How is the routine working out now that you are both back to work?
E2

doberdogsfd
02-13-2009, 07:38 AM
Well...I would like to say going back to work is just the deal....but it sucks!
Bob and I both make our own schedules and are able to have flexiblilty in when and how we do our job. which is nice. Reality is, I do not want to leave the house!!!

For all of you who do this without your spouse's support....HOLY CRAP!!! He makes this just so much easier and handles as much of the work load as I do.
Bob is just the best!!

The babies are great! Getting big and fresh and more fun then a barrel of monkeys!!
Emma makes life easy too. she is the most amazing mom. She allows them to chew her, sleep on her, bark in her face...the best was when one of the little girls decided to pounce on her nose with both paws! Emma just looked at her and shifted her head before the second wave of pouncing paws came in!!
Ems is and excellent dog in general and a wonderful mom!!

Cheryl, Bob is an Angel!!! Not too many men take such an active role!! Jeff is great to build a whelping box, put up a puppy fence, fund the entire experience, etc. But the puppy care is all me! Puppies and mom come first so the rest of my life takes quite a hit!! :D
Anyway, I' sure am thoroughly enjoying these photos. Keep em comin and more!!!

My little Green girl (Blackwood's Dark Gift) is also quite the photos hound.

If we only could, right?
It will depend. Right now Bob wants all of them!:) They are all darling and we love them all to death! Of course we can't keep a male so that is kind of done. The girls are just scrumptous, clearly!
The little green collar girl, Blackwood's Dark Gift, has caught my eye since she was minutes old. We kind of have a connection.

Diego looks at the litter in a few weeks. He will have input on who.
I can pretty much tell you Andy, two will stay......Bob needs his little girl.
Emma is his baby and has been since the first time she set eyes on us. So as many Emma babies he will be able to keep, he will! :D

Thanks Grandma Elaine and Auntie Brenna! I just always want to squeeze them! They are just so cuddly and sweet.

Little guy with the hedgehog is Blackwood's Talamasca. We call him Tala for short. He is the naughtiest little bugger. He looks all angelic there, but the meaning of his name fits him, " Sorcerer or Witch" He is always contemplating something. "Hummm.....who should I mug as they wake up now? "

Mr Octopus is their absolute favorite!! They sleep with him, drag him around the box or whelping room by his tenticles, poop on him :D

I have been running around like a mad person for the last couple of weeks, so I thought it a good time to touch base with everyone and update you on the puppies.
We just downloaded both cameras and will be posting some new photos this weekend.

The puppies are doing great! Beautiful and growing like little weeds : )! 8 weeks this Tuesday.

It appears a Shriner's convention has booked my kitchen this weekend. Everyone was cropped yesterday and are doing just fine. Actually they bounced back so fast, other then the Shriners caps and color coordinated vet wrap, one wouldn't know they had any surgery.
Doc told me they are confident, happy puppies with great attitudes. They found their voices early after surgery and demanded some lunch from the girls at the hospital. Made a trip to the ex-pen for some playtime and then let everyone know they had better pay attention to them all day long!

Beautiful crop by the way.....but I didn't expect anything less from the individual that did it...just super!
What was one of the most pleasant and refreshing things about the entire experience, was the complete professionalism and care. No nonsense, no gossip, no games.
Just a superb crop and excellent, professional care start to finish.

I will make sure to get the photos up!

Cheryl

What are you saying.. that the cropper wasn’t on the phone to everyone before you’d pulled out of the drive way.. are you saying the cropper actually cropped each ear on every puppy as though each and every puppy was deserving of the cropper's very best effort. AMAZING ;) There is only one professional that comes to mind... I think we should all be using her, for the very reasons you mention.

Btw, we hear that you have some really outstanding puppies in the litter, can’t wait to see them. :)

doberdogsfd
03-14-2009, 08:28 PM
....YES ,that is exactly what I am saying! :)

It was a great experience and I would highly recommend this person to you. She really has a great talent as well as a caring and proffesional staff and immaculately clean and charming hospital.
What I liked so much was the individual care and attention to each puppy.
It was down to every detail.
Example, all of our guys have spiffy little collars, some with flowers and butterflies, some with cross bones and skulls, some red or purple. Ok , so each puppy's cup and ear muff wrap matched their little collar.....PERFECTLY!!!!
Think about it, the though that went into it. I really appreciated it and so did Bob. It is a long and kind of crazy day for the babies and for us, it was hard, as you all know. This thoughtful finishing touch went a long way.

We think we have some pretty darn nice puppies. We have gotten some very nice compliments from other Doberman folks too...it really makes us proud.

We will get the pics up ASAP.

OMG these pictures are the best. I needed that smile already.
I can't decide my favourites. One looks like they are chatting at a tea party. The yawn, the sleep heap, the bums are all hilarious.
Are they as devilish as their expressions depict?

Thanks for sharing

Everyone went up into posts today. We took the trip to Dr Fitzgerald to have her show us her technique with her crop.
Let me tell everyone how absolutley beautiful it is! She does an amazing job.

She took the time with each puppy and spent time with Bob and I to make sure we were good to go with everything.
Posting a 12 week old is pretty different then taking these guys from cups to posts. We wanted to be sure we were doing it the way she would want us to.

We will post a few more shots of the puppies as we go. It has been a long weekend and today's ride to Long Island and back was the icing on the cake!

Thanks for everyone's kind words...we think they are pretty spiffy and we are so pleased with this litter.

Athy,

That does not even begin to describe it.....LOL They are full of life and energy, we just wish we had a third of their energy!!! They are so much fun!!! They have figured out if they hit the baby gate on mass they can knock it down and have a "jail Break" and rampage through the house. The big dogs love it when they break out....I think they actually coax the babies to break out so they can play with them. Piss and Vinegar.....Yep!!!

Wow, it's really great to see the kids growing up and moving off to their new families. The expression on Tala seems so familiar to me... I see a tad bit of Brentina in his eyes, love that look and expression. And I love that first photo of Hex. She is lovely... really a very pretty girl. As I look back over this thread and see Bob and Cheryl’s extraordinary love and commitment to each and every one of these healthy happy puppies I can not help but be very proud of them and prouder still to be the Grandma of this litter.

One of the things I most love about your puppies is that they radiate every quality we look for in a happy healthy litter. They are beautiful, well-adjusted Dobermans. Elaine,

Or should I say Grandma? Thanks we sure have tried to do it the right way. We love these guys. They are a ton of work but so much fun. Yesterday Blackwood's Dark Serenity aka Reni and I fell asleep on the sofa together, she climbed up and lay on my chest and belly with her head next to my cheek and went right to sleep. About an hour later I woke up to kisses from Reni and Blackwood's Immortal Beloved aka Rowan. It was one of the coolest things. Cheryl was napping with Vaako and Emma so we missed the photo op but I am sure there will be more.

There have been so many cool things with this litter from whelping day and being the first to touch them. To watching them grow and become well adjust bomb proof members of society. Then when the litter registration came with the 3 generation pedigree certificate pride filled us both. Just last week we sent off the DPCA FUTURITY nominations, what a cool feeling, it is hard to put into words. This being our first litter and all we are like kids in a candy store with all this stuff. When the individual registrations came and each name was listed with their number we like kids looking at them and reading them. I am not sure why as it is just part of the process and we have seen registrations before, but these are special because were part of their creation. Then sending them off to their new owners who adore them and flood our email with photos and updates is beyond words amazing. It is so fun to call them and say your AKC papers are on the way. The new friendships we have made with our puppy owners is amazing, having the opportunity to mentor some of the novice Doberman owners gives us a sense of pride as well. This has been a dream come true for us.

I am sure for those of you that have done this multiple times it is not quite as exciting, and for us it may fade with future litters as well, although we really hope not because for us the point of all this is the entire experience and the giddiness that comes with it. Now the anticipation of seeing them in the Conformation ring, at the Nationals, in the obedience ring, or becoming certified therapy dogs, or whatever good things life holds for these little guys keeps us energized. :D

Cheryl and I cannot thank you and Arthur enough for all the help and support you have given us. It really has made this whole experience that much more enjoyable.

I will be posting some photos of Blackwood's Velvet Veil aka Hannah with her new family in a bit. They are really cute and funny photos of her and her new BFF....Benny.

That is a fun idea Athy!

When I met Mark and Robyn at Elaine's with Miss Hannah, it was like the puppy had known them forever. She immediatley went and crawled into Robyn's lap and kissed her.
When they loaded up for the drive back home, Hannah was like " Bye old Mom, thanks for the good start and love...My new mom and I will write and send pictures!" It was a good feeling....I believe the dog knows when it is right and when the folks are good folks. Robyn and Mark are good folks.

We get these wonderful updates almost daily with photos of Hannah and her BFF Benni, her sister Jamie ( crated with her :)) and her ever growing collection of toys.
Mark and Robyn are every breeder's dream of a good home for their puppies.
Hannah has a bright career ahead of her in obedience, agility and whatever else Robyn decides she and her girl can take on.

To echo what Cheryl is saying, it was a perfect fit from the moment Robyn and Mark popped out of the car. They fell in love immediately and Hannah was like, “Mom!!! Dad!!! Where’ve you been!!! I love you!!!” She was all over them with kisses, tail wagging, in their laps… kisses, kisses, kisses. No question Bob and Cheryl have put hours and hours of time, effort and love into their puppies. You can see it in most every detail of what is posted here. Their puppies are happy, healthy and extremely confident… really a joy to be around. Hannah’s focus was either the people or a stray pine cone she wanted as a toy. It is so nice to see a puppy so composed. Titan was out with Hannah when Mark and Robyn arrived, and later we had Warkant out. They are each great ambassadors for the breed. It’s nice to have generations of great temperaments to show puppy buyers. And as Cheryl mentioned, when it came time to say goodbyes, we were all a bit teary and hugging each other, but not little Hannah. She had settled down immediately in her new crate, chewing in her new pink stuffed pig… seeming a bit impatient with things, as though to say, “Come on guys, wrap it up already, Mark, Robyn and I have got to get on the road home.” She made us all laugh.

Thank's Minka!

Susan did an amazing job with the ad. I love the moody, dark feel of it. She was spot on with what we wanted.

Are you a fan of The Chronicles? You must be if you know who Memenoch is! LOL!

We allow the puppies a lot of freedom to condition themselves and play. Along with a diet based in high protien raw food, the muscle bellies are fuller and they tend to have richer coats on that type of diet.
Vaako was raised on the same diet. Emma is maintained and was on raw throughout her pregnacy.

The little girl Lily May is a raw food puppy also. She has wonderful condition and coat.

Thanks again!

Absolutly - it rolls of the tongue rather nicely - No points for guessing who my favorite in that litter of yours is :D who ever said a name didnt give you an unfair advantage
No seriously I love the bone and the muscle on the pup's (all the logres dogs and there pups seem to be pumping iron - I looked at the Ausben litter)

Tala' as we call him for short, is the most pleasant and even little guy. I called him my Halloween puppy. He wore an orange ribbon and his black fur against it reminder me of my favorite holiday all the time.
He always was the cuddliest little bugger too!

You are right about the Logres dogs. Elaine has wonderful bone in her dogs. The males look like males and the girls carry bone and femininity,as they should.

Sheila's puppies definitely have lovely bone also, I agree.

Today is tape off day and just look how gorgeous our girl is....Just the most magnificent puppy. They are standing beautifully, albeit probably for half an hour. But, it certainly is a preview of how she will look in a few months. I hate torturing her with the tape, but boy is it ever worth it. Robyn

Love the faces on these kids... they are so expressive, really beautiful... and the smooth shoulders, and clean down and back of Tala is so wonderful to see. And the ears are lovely... really lovely... great choice of ear cropper! :) Great photos, stunning quality. These are just about the most amazing photos I’ve ever seen. Bob is doing a great job with the camera! We love the farm were we took these, so beautiiful this time of year.

Dr Fitzgerald did a beautiful crop on everyone. Everyone of the 8 puppies cropped looks wonderful!
We highly recommend her.

I was just thinking about the movement shots you have of Tala. At first I was stuck on how lovely the shots are. Then it occurred so me that if you’re the handler in the photo, that means Bob was the photographer. I went back and looked at the angle Bob had to be at to get those movement shots of Tala… he must have been flat on the ground. Given Bob's immense body mass, the mere thought of him on the ground trying to get those shots makes me giggle.

I would love to have photos of Bob getting your photos! ;) Is there anything he won't do for this litter? What a guy! What a dad! He REALLY loves these puppies.

It is so refreshing to see how totally committed you both are to them. Your love shows in every photo on this thread, which, btw, has now been viewed by over 5,000 people. Clearly a lot of people LOVE your litter and that says wonderful things about what you both have accomplished. You have so much to be proud of. :)

Bob is the best. I lucked out when he towered into my life so many years ago at a Best Buy in Princeton, NJ!
Flex and Deca knew who he was and loved him from the moment they met him. Flex didn't like to share me with anyone!

Yes...he was laying on the ground or sitting. Of course the only way to get shots like those!

Our friend Lee, who owns Talia (aka: Blackwood's Dark Gift) was there watching this entire thing! Lee is a retired Navy Seal. Bob took a shot of him laying on the ground cuddling Talia. She adores him and visa versa. The picture of these two very tough and masculine men with their puppies gives you a glimpse into who they are and how good their hearts are. Lee who can drop someone with two fingers and Bob who is not a man to be trifled with, love them and pretty much would do whatever it takes for them.

Yes ladies...they are out there! Lee is single!! ;)

We tried very hard to do it right with these guys. We are happy with the folks that have become family and are about to, by giving our puppies a forever home and we remain committed to them for their entire lives.

Most of all we are so very proud of Vaako and Emma. There were those who had and still have ugly nasty things to say about this breeding and our litter...but...those who have seen these puppies and know their parents see the truth. The best of both parents came through in these little guys. I believe that is what everyone breeds for, right?

LOVE this video!!! :)

It's one thing to see static photos… which we all know are so tricky to get, and quite another to have video, which allows us to view the living moving dog. The video clip shows so many of the qualities of these lovely puppies: beautiful strong typey heads, great bone, beautifully smooth shoulders, excellent condition and overall healthy, happy secure outgoing puppies. Bob and Cheryl, you have so much to be proud of with this litter…. I am thrilled for you… absolutely thrilled!!! :):):)

Could you tell us who's who on the video? I am guessing that the girl without the ear tape is Len's bitch Talia, who is the vocal girl with so much to say? ANd the lovely make the give ears to the camera, who is he?

doberdogsfd

The girl that has so much to say is my girl Rowan (Blackwood's Immortal Beloved). She always has a comment or two about everything!
Pagan looks like he makes a cameo and then rolls out.

Lee and Talia stopped over for a taping that pm and the puppies had a bit of a run on the deck first. Talia seems to be saying " Dad! Why are they so rude " my goodness! Rowan is so unlady like shouting at me like that!"

They are sometimes like a little street gang those 4. Naughty and looking for a dust up! LOL!!

Actually their favorite game since they were just little peepers learning to walk and run is chase me. We think it is a genetic thing since Grandma Brentina loves the chase me game so much and it is Vaako's favorite game too. They actually take turns, usually Pagan starts by picking up a toy or a stick and looking at his siblings then darting off. When there were 9 the entire crew would give chase. Then at some point they would all stop look at each other and one of the girls would grab the toy and take off and the game continued.

Now when Talia comes for a visit she goes out and says hello to her brother and sisters, then being the fastest she takes off and they chase. Rowan is like the announcer; she barks and carries on when they have her cornered.

I have to post the video of the game with Vaako. There is nothing more funny then watching him run up to the puppies play bow, spin around and take off with all of them in "HOT PURSUIT". He even slows down so they do not lose interest. When he stops they jump on him and he gets all silly and goofy. Then one of the puppies play bows and takes off with Vaako and his 3 siblings in hot pursuit. If he was not so big you would think he was one of the littermates:D!!! LOL At some point Emma joins the chase, she likes to chase not be chased.

The best part is when the puppies are tired or want do something else and Vaako is like "Hey we are not done.....come on guys chase me!!!" He runs up to them and bumps them with his nose and runs off. If they do not chase he goes back and bumps them with his paw, play bows and runs off. If that does not work he gets a toy, toss it down in front of them then grabs it and takes off.....then the game is on again.

The only thing that stops the game is if the dreaded "were-rabbit" :eek:approaches the fence, then Emma, Vaako and the babies all charge the fence and bark at the bunny, which leads to about 5 minutes of running back and forth along the fence line carrying on. Reni usually at some point is like there are 6 of us we could just spread out and bark I am tired!!!! LOL

Our neighbor sits in his lawn chair most evenings watching the festivities, you can actually hear him laughing out loud. He comments often about how much fun it is to watch them. He also is amazed at how much Vaako loves the babies and how gentle he is with them. We were talking the other day when he said "I have never heard of a grown male dog of any breed that lets puppies jump on them or is so well behaved with puppies, they usually find the puppies to be a pain in the ass and want nothing to do with them."

Why yes Rowan does have a nickname!!! She is the "Battle-Bot". Little Rowan is the smallest of the four and yet she is the toughest, an absolute tomboy. She does not take any guff from her brothers. She loves to mouth dual and wrestle. She jumps on them like a monkey. She is fearless taking on the world with the attitude that everything is new and exciting. Much like Pagan she is always looking for some new challenge. Then again Reni and Tala are always looking for the next fun thing too, might explain why Cheryl and I are tired all the time.

She looks so much like our sweet Deca who had the nickname Dodi-Bot because of this little robot dance she used to do. Since Rowan is her doppleganger, we decided to go with Battle-Bot. She is always ready for a good rough play session. She adores Vaako, she even tries to mouth dual with him, he looks at her funny but lets her do it!! She is such a little pisser!!:D

doberdogsfd
06-21-2009, 09:13 AM
In the Bally area Mary Jo. I took Vaako to the same calsses when he was puppy.
Tina Millman recommended them to me. She had JR there and Cassidy in obedience there.
Bev has an amazing facility. She runs herding classes (has sheep and a beautiful field) , a kick ass agility course in and out, plus indoor and outdoor show rings set up.

Phyllis runs the classes. I am sorry, I forgot her last name.

What I like is, they are drop ins and I am not strucured as to how many dogs I can bring and a set class that is paid up front.

15 bucks per/ gets you a lot of time and work with the dogs.
I bring all my puppies and rotate them through. Very friendly atmosphere and Phyliss is excellent.
Phyliss is very knowledgable, has bred GSDs for 40 + yrs and is one of the best for puppies. Relaxed and smart in understanding they are there for the social aspect and some fun stuff in the ring, not structured hard work.
She also doesn't force those of us that have some experience and background into anything. She gets why we are there and really let's us do our thing.

It is mostly GSDs. Lots of tails and hair! Great for dobers who think they and boxers are the only models available! LOL! :D

I would highly recommend the classes and facility. Since I train dogs and have run large classes like these in the past, I am fairly critical.

If you want more info, shoot me an email. BTW...I had your sweatshirt in my truck at Bryn Mawr and totally forgot to give it to you. Sorry!!

Thanks Tina! We adore her. She has more attitude then she knows what to do with and pretty much has her father wrapped around her little paw....her human and canine one. Vaako thinks she hung the moon.

He is just the best. He is a great help with them. He assists in all romps outside. He will happy lay in the grass and keep a watchful eye on them for me once they settle down to grazing and rolling around the backyard.

At night he loves to snuggle with them on the sofa or a big dog bed. Rowan is always right next to him, head on his butt.

Emma has gladly passed the reins to him. She trusts him implicitly with her babies.
It is amazing to watch the two of them. If you could read the cartoon bubble over her head, it might just say " Honey...go see what the kids are doing...it is far too quiet." and off he lumbers to see what they are doing. He typically returns with puppies in tow. :)

Love the temperament on Vaako.. he is a lovable clown with his family and yet he is discriminating - as a Dobe should be - about strangers and strange people. I don’t think I have ever seen a male dog be so loving with his puppies.

New photos of the boys and our girls from our visit with Diego and Eve up in Bainbridge, NY this weekend.

Page 17 starts Blackwood's Pagan. Pagan is very much the little show dog! He is a fearless and strong minded boy.....love it!!

Our little darlings, "The Girls" as we like to call them, Blackwood's Dark Serenity / aka: Reni and Blackwood's Immortal Beloved / aka: Rowan.

The last boy is Blackwood's Talamasca / aka: Tala. My sweet and lovey "Halloween Puppy" is growing up and turning into such an elegant and showy boy.

We are thrilled with what we are seeing in the puppies. We are looking forward to a fun and exciting National and show season.

I really can’t begin to convey how proud we are of this litter and how impressed we are with the extraordinary love and devotion Bob and Cheryl have lavished upon these puppies. I think Bob and Sheryl set the Gold Standard for breeders… Arthur and I are honored to be the grandparents of this litter.

I really hope that we can all be ringside at the National this year, watching these kids make an appearance. Arthur and I would love to see both Reni and Pagan in the ring in 2009 at the National. :)

Also, I am pushing behind the scenes to have Betty show Halla in Open AOAC at the National :) which will be a ring debut for both Betty and Halla, sort of like jumping in at the deep end of the pool for your first swim. I think Betty is slowly wrming up to the idea, she is almost on the verge of not saying, “Hell Frickin NO!!!” which I see as a marked improvement over, "Absolutely, positively, no way in hell." :p I figure I have three and a half months to soften the “no” to “I’ll think about it,” which is just a short step away from, “okay.” :) If not Betty, maybe we can get Tracy to show Halla at the National. :)

Arthur and Elaine,

Cheryl and I cannot THANK YOU enough for the LOVE and SUPPORT. We are EXTREMELY Proud of these little guys and of course their Parents. We think they look great too. Their conditioning is a combo of Great Food, Great Genetics and lots of running in the backyard with Emma and Vaako. Of course Emma and Vaako are also looking Great.

We have to give a lot of the credit to Emma and Vaako.....we just knew their pedigree's aligned and living with them seeing them everyday we knew that each would contribute GREAT things to the Puppies. Vaako gave them GREAT BONE and movement which was no surprise. Emma gave them her beautiful shoulders. Both contributed to their heads and wonderful temperaments. They have Emma's exuberance and Vaako's silliness...LOL They also have that trait of being protective of their family and house which both parents gave them.

We have been blessed with this litter. The entire experience from the beginning to now has been WONDERFUL. Our puppy owners are the deal...what more could we ask for!!! Thanks again for your kind words.

Hey by the way if I am correct yesterday was Elaine's B-day, did you do something special for her? After all the time you two were apart I figured a big celebration was in order!!!

I know its a bit belated, but I just got back from a show where we had a great time. So, E1, did Arthur take you out on a relaxing retreat for your 29th birthday? I would think that a break from mowing, taking care of the horses, mowing, avoiding school bus sized snakes, mowing, and taking care of the dogs, mowing, and remebering to feed the human (rootbeer floats and good n'plenty) would deserve a weekend at the beach and a romantic candle lit dinner now that the hubbie is home should be in order! I would have sent a cake with candles, but Homeland Security won't allow something with THAT many candles be sent without a bomb-proof box, and they ran fresh out of bomb-proof boxes at the post office! I do hope you did enjoy yourself. After all the help you supply to us through DSNN and otherwise, I just want you to know how vital you are to our sanity! And tungsten says " happy birrrrfday to roooo", bah says "where's the cake", and moose's always statement for everything is "THROW IT!!! I'lll chase it for you!". Seriously, happy birthday elaine!

Can that be right? The babies turned 6 months on Tuesday, with all the craziness this week we remembered to wish them a happy Whelping Day but had little time to relfect on the last 6 months.

It seems like a week ago I was drying them off, kissing their little heads and weighing them for the first time. I am not sure where the time went, it truly moves by so fast. I have been looking through the photos we took the first days and weeks for the website.....I cannot tell you how happy I am we took so many. The little things one forgets in such a short period of time is amazing.

Lee,
Welcome to DSNN; it is nice to finally met you. I've heard all good things about you and love the work you did on Blackwood's website (www.blackwooddobermans.com ).
You have a lovely bitch and it looks like you are making a responsible citizen out of her.

I really hate to gush, because, as a grandma, I am biased about these kids, but they are maturing so beautifully I simply had to say something. Not only are they lovely, but it is evident from the photos that they are beautifully conditioned and very well trained. All of us who have followed this litter from day one know the about the love, sweat, tears and joys that went into this litter. You guys have done a spectacular job!!! Can’t wait to see them at the National. Thanks for the photos.

One last thing, you know me, I just hate to nag :p (and far be it for me to be pushy ), but I have to ask, where are the photos of Tala and Pagan?

Ok, Lincoln says "send Reni and Rowan to my house!!" haha - they are awesome. Elaine, the ad is beautiful I love the font...its so Blackwood.

Talia is also very beautiful and she obviously loves Lee and her classes! Maybe we will see Talia at the obedience/rally/agility trials since we all live very close- they can cheer each other on!

Tell big brother he will have a little girl in the future!
Remind him what a pain in the butt Rowan was when he was here......he will change his mind :D
She stole his toys all the time!
She hasn't changed and her brothers Tala and Pagan find her to be annoying with it! LOL!

I have been sitting here staring at the Blackwood ads. I am obviously a bit biased, but I love 'em. I've said this privately many times, so I might as well say it here.

Sometimes, when I am up to my eye balls in shit (literally and figuratively) I think, "Why the hell am I doing this?" People like Bob and Cheryl are the reason. They make this all so worthwhile. Bob and Cheryl have taken the gift of the foundation we built and created a beautiful legacy to go forward with. Our breed and this sport are (and will be) better for their contributions.

As I see it, we are each like Oak Trees, growing strong, yet independent from each other. What Bob and Cheryl are doing is amazing. Arthur and I are proud to be a part of it. I look forward to contributions from Wei (through her kids), and Wah, Contender, Titus, Hallla and Flip. The breed and future generations are what this is all about.

About the ads, need to offer a HUGE THANK YOU to Janice McGerr... if I haven't said it before, I'll say it here, "Janice, you are FANTASTIC!!!" :)

OMG!!! Hannah and the mud bath....great.

Say Cheryl/Bob...how is the leather upholestry holding up to the Dobermans? I am looking to purchase new living room furniture and need an opinion from a doberman lover. I assume with regular cleaning and proper nail maintenance there should be no issues.

doberdogsfd
01-21-2010, 12:03 AM
It holds up great. Actually in our opinion better than cloth. That sofa now retired lasted about 6-7 years. We bought it when we had Flex, Deca and our two rescue girls because we got tired of the constant negotiations for who was sitting where. We figured a sectional could house all 4 of them and the two of us. It worked. Then we got Emma and still had room.:D

It aged well, easy clean up when there is an accident or vomit. As it ages it looks better like a leather jacket that gets that patina. It is very forgiving of the their nails. We give it two paws up!!!:D

Did you see Hannah in her Halloween costume on page 21? Almost as good as the mud...almost.
Hannah is a pip. She has always been a tomboy. There are three more of her rolling in the mud at the dog park. Then one of her hoping out of the bath at the dog park!!! Mark and Robyn are lucky they had a bathing area at the park, she actually had more mud on her than in the above photo!!!

The pictures are great. A year flys by doesnt it? Hannah in the mud is a sight to behold. Thank goodness she didnt have to get back in the owners car in that condition. Its so nice to see that your puppy buyers have kept in touch. I am sure its comforting to know they are all so loved and well cared for. They all deserve that !!!

If Hannah didn't already have a relative named " Mud Monster" I would have titled that pic as such!! LOL!
That photo is so hysterical. You all need to know Hannah a bit....that is her...naughty to the bone from the time she was a wee pee.
Her best pal was the other naughty one, Rowan! They would tag team the biggest puppy, Lincoln. Playing "bark in your face and nibble your butt, until you can't stand it anymore"!! :D

Now, as for Robyn and Mark, Hannah's mom and dad, they are really wonderful!!
Robyn has never failed to send and email with updates and adorable photos.
Robyn and Mark have done a super job with this puppy. She gets whatever she needs or wants as do all the other members of that family! Robyn cooks for every one of them in that household.....human to avian!!
I asked her if I could live with her..LOL!

I have been trying to find the time to write this post for 2 days....for some reason I have not been able to find it. I am going to cross post this on the Happy B-Day Blackwood Gang thread as well.

As Cheryl and I were going through the 1000's of photos we have taken of this litter and the 1000's more of Vaako and Emma, we had a chance to stroll down memory lane and have a laugh or two. We also had the chance to really reflect on what this litter has meant to us and some of the very special things that occurred. We learned that sleep is a great Idea when you have 9 puppies:D. We also learned that one should never under estimate the Maternal or Paternal instinct of this wonderful breed. We have talked to a lot of dog people and breeders about the experience and most are amazed by Vaako.

Emma was a wonderful mom she acted like this was litter number 5 not litter number 1. What really blew us away was the way Vaako responded to fatherhood. Conventional wisdom says that the male must be kept away from the puppies and that the bitch does not want the male near the puppies for fear he will hurt them. This may be true. However our experience was very VERY different.

As whelping day approached Cheryl and I had modified our schedules so one of would be home incase Emma went into whelp. The day she did go into whelp I was working from home. Vaako had been acting strange for about a day and half, but that day he was really different. Now some background, Vaako always patrols the perimeter of the yard and house to ensure all is good. The day Emma went into whelp he was on high alert. He was tending to Emma like we had never seen. Emma could not get a drink without Vaako standing there to ensure all was fine. It was like he knew the babies were coming and that he must be there for her.

It all started early in the morning. I had let Vaako out for a pee, there were some tree trimmers working at the neighbors. They were far enough away that one good bark is all Vaako gave them. About an hour later Emma went out with Vaako, the tree trimmers were a bit closer to the yard. Vaako responded like they were trying to invade. He charged the fence let out a warning bark...the guy in the tree almost fell..I think V scared him. The other ran. Vaako ran to Emma's side and stood over her while she pee'd grumbling at the men. I was amazed. I called Cheryl and said today is the day!!! The rest of the day Vaako was licking Emma's ears, bringing her toys, he even offered his food to her. We were so proud of him..what we did not know is that over the next several hours, weeks and months Vaako would give us more reasons to be proud.

Later that day Emma had taken up residence in the bedroom on our pillows. Cheryl was home from work and I think in the office working on the computer, Vaako had dragged his bed in to the hall right in front of bedroom door and was lying watching. I was cooking dinner when Vaako ran in and jumped on me barking. He ran to the office to get Cheryl. Emma had come into the hall...her water had broken (not on our bed thankfully):D. Vaako was pacing licking Emma and jumping on me. We took Emma to the whelping room with Vaako right on our heels. He inspected everything. As the night progressed Vaako was in the hall pacing like an expectant father, it was like a scene from the movies, and he would periodically peek around the door to check on Emma. She would put her ears up and look at him. We had to let him in a few times so he could make sure she was o.k.!!!

The first baby arrived and Vaako was outside the door whining. A friend arrived to help us whelp the litter, Vaako welcomed her and licked her. When she went in the whelping room he was not pleased:mad:. As the night went on he paced and whined and whined and paced. At one point one of the babies was peeping and making noise Vaako jumped up and pulled himself up on the Dutch door to see what was going on and grumble at the person making his baby peep. When Cheryl answered and said "it's ok big guy it's me" his ear softened and relaxed a bit. By 4:30 am when the last puppy had arrived and everything was settled I think Vaako looked worse than we did. He was exhausted.

Everyday Vaako lay outside the door, trying to get a peek at Emma and the babies. Around day 3 I took one of the babies to the door for Vaako to see, Emma was fully relaxed and fine with it. Vaako's eyes were huge he played bowed to the baby and kissed her little head. I did not realize that I would be doing this several times a day or V would not settle down. At the end of the first week I was entering the whelping room and Vaako got his head around the corner for look. I was concerned Emma would be upset; instead she stood up wagged at him and invited him. I called Cheryl and said you have to see this. She trusted him completely. Emma stepped out the whelping box and came over to Vaako. They were so excited to see each other. Emma went back to the box, Vaako waited and kind of asked "can I come over” Emma invited him to the whelping box. I wish I would have had my camcorder with me to catch his reaction. He was amazed by the puppies. He licked Emma, turned and looked at Cheryl and I as if to say “have seen these guys....wow!!! He inspected the box and the babies, he counted them licked them and Emma. Again we did not realize it but this was now going to be a several times a day occurrence. Each night before bed Vaako went into the room and checked the babies. Of course all of this was done based on Emma's comfort level with him being there. The big guy's heart melted at the sight of his babies. They had him wrapped around their little paws.

Post #209 shows him covered in babies, Pagan chewing on his ear at 16 weeks old. From the time the babies could be with him he let them jump on him, chew his ears and climb all over him. Everyday V would whine right around the time the puppies were coming out for play time. He was so gentle and careful with them. They would chase him through the house; the funniest sight was 9 little black puppies running after their 90lb. father down the hall. He would jump on the pile of dog beds and they would jump on him. He was so happy he would squeal with excitement. The puppies would be hanging off of his ears and muzzle. He would stand up and run down the hall waiting for them to catch up. Of course a form of this still goes on with the girls. He adores them. He played with the boys until they were almost 6 months old. He would also wait outside of the whelping room right before bed count the puppies as they went in for bed. He would give them a little lick if he could sneak it in. I remember telling Elaine about this and her saying no...males don't act like that or something to that effect. All I said was Vaako does...he loves his babies..he is a good boy!!!:p

Cheryl and I have been spoiled by this litter. The ENTIRE experience everything from the birthing process to the friends we have made, support we have been given, to the GREAT Puppy owners, to the phenomenal Mom and Dad, Emma and Vaako turned out to be has been a gift. One we will cherish for the rest of lives.

We just wanted to share this amazing story!

I have to say Emma, Vaako, Rowan and Reni were the most helpful to Bob while he was digging out spots for them to potty in the yard after the last snow. Reni looks so much like Emma in the photo by the tree. It was fun to watch them use the paths Bob made as a race circuit, it is our version of the Luge...LOL

Bob dug out over 300 feet of the backyard and fence line for them....he is a good man!!!

doberdogsfd

The last two shots are Reni (Blackwood's Dark Serenity).
Reni has always been a pretty girl and now at 13 months old, she is maturing into a beautiful young bitch.

The one with Vaako facing the cam, is Rowan. They were barking at our hawks, Desi and Lucy, who were screeching! The one after is also Ro.

That is their mom, Emma with Bob...as usual. Where Bob goes, Emma goes. :)

We are very excited about these girls! They are both so pretty and both very different! Should be a fun show season!

They look beautiful. I just love the look of a black doberman against the white snow. The contrast is so powerful.

Emma does seem like she is very focussed on what Bob is doing. Hopefully that is it for the snow this year. I worry about people shoveling snow as they seem to get back injuries and heart attacks.

Thanks Arthur!

We are expecting some more weather Mon into Tues. They aren't sure if it will me more rain then snow at this point. As much as I am not looking forward to the mud that comes with the thaw...I am really quite sick of the cold, ice and snow!!

Emma watches Bob all the time...he moves...she moves. She has been very attached to Bob since the first day Sophia put her in his arms. :)

Pagan is a ton of fun as well as being a handsome guy.We are really excited about seeing him out.

We are thrilled with being able to have Jessy show him. The boys look good together and it seems very right..... he was Monty's handler and he also was Flex's co-owner and handled him in JRs at Westminster.

The girls will get back to it at the same time, so it will be a hectic but fun show season!
