Just saw this in the Mt Hood DPCA Newsletter:

Your thoughts?????

THE DOBERMAN DIALOG
AKC proposed "activity fee"
Please forward to your club lists! A letter writing campaign to the delegates and to AKC might be called for. visit www.akc.org
As one exhibitor/breeder/ judge said, "Eventually they will price purebred dogs and dog shows out of reach for the general (or new) exhibitor and we'll go out of busi-ness.

FOLLOWING FROM "THE DOG PRESS" NEWSLETTER EMAIL RECEIVED TO-DAY: AKC Exhibition Tax: AKC plans to help pay for the frozen semen start-up by impos-ing something called an Annual Activity Fee. Call it what you will but most will call it what it is, a TAX! Its no small amount either. AKC is talking about an initial (you know what that means) tax of $25.00 for each dog, each year you exhibit the dog. But not to worry, the couple million bucks from the Exhibition Tax will be used to help fund other worthwhile programs. There. That should make every exhibitor feel much better. Unless the new income to the not-for-profit AKC is over estimated because surely the tax is will impact already declining entries. Then there's the "Whoa!!!" effect on the first-time exhibitor or the novice who is wavering about continuing such an expensive "hobby." AKC imposed a 700% increase on the Event Recording Fee in 2008 (see AKC Economics) but when it tried to float an unlimited Recording fee "tax" increase in June 2008, the Delegates finally said "no way." So is the "Annual Activity Fee", aka Exhibition Tax just a work-around?

I say we all take our $25.00 and enter a UKC event and all of us owner handlers just stick with UKC for an entire year!! Can you imagine the shock at AKC??:eek:
We all complain that we want a venue where things are more fair to the average dog show competitor and we have it. Just not too many use it. If more would enter UKC, the competition would be greater, therefore making the wins a bit more pretigeous and it could eventually snowball into a much more recognized and valued Championship!
More clubs and events would evolve and the "little people" would stop just supporting the entries for the handlers and finally make it worthwhile for all of us!
Just got my premium list for the WPKA shows and entries are $30.00!!:mad:

Eek! $30 for the entry, $100 and up for the handler... gas, parking, food and other expenses for the day... and a $3,000 retainer to get you bailed out of jail for slugging the judge... or another exhibitor... just can't afford to show anymore. :p

And...how many people neglect using a vet already?

I remember when dog entries were $12.00 and maybe $8.00. That's all it should be! It really isn't worth more. In fact it went from 6, to 8 then 12 quite quickly. Then they promised it would stay that way for awhile.

I paid $30.00 per entry just recently. I think the market is pricing itself out. So it must be that $30.00 is the going rate now. Maybe it will go to $50.00.

But then I remember when it was $2.00 for a horse and then $5.00 and everybody got mad too! I can only imagine what it is now...

I am entering a UKC show for next month and for all 4 shows the cost is $70.00. I think that the UKC is going to have more traffic because their show costs are so low.

The AKC better wise up or they are going to lose more people just because of the cost!
