View Full Version : CHEAP WINS?

Where do you folks stand on this? Would you prefer you dogs to be finished, whatever the circumstance, or do you feel that the championship title should reflect quality? Myself, I would prefer a dog to be quality and never win without a "face" on the end of the lead as opposed to a piece of crap going up just because a friend of a friend knows the judge:eek:. Yup, I said that. I've always felt that the dogs in a line up should be similar, and if you hate what's been selected, you need to be cognizant that if YOUR/MY dog is IN that lineup they are selected and placed there for a reason. I prefer a judging based on the dog, since it is called a dog show and not a handler show or a judge tithe. To compare the owner handlers with pros is not only unfair, but unnecessary. Comments made to the owners that they are not as good as X or Y not only destroys the person inside, but also demonstrates that the judge is apparently incapable of seeing quality in a dog unless it is presented flawlessly. Kinda sad if you depend on a judge to see quality, and THEY can't find it. I think that we have underestimated the skill set of SOME of our judges. Others are only capable of finding the human faces of people they know. I suppose that behaviour is akin to pattern recognition Clicker Training. "Ooohh, There's X. Wow! I found him FAST! I'm sooo skilled!" . I know it's not a perfect world, but that doesn't mean that we should throw away values and ethics that are derived from a perfect world. Have we forgotten that this is SUPPOSED to be a sport that we all participate in?

I agree, it’s pure crap to be depending on inside connections to win... I agree with you and yet it is easy to fall into that sort of thing, especially when you see it all around you. A win here and there under some Lousy judge is total bs... it means nothing to the breed, nothing about the dog, nothing that is of any merit what-so-ever… the worst of all is that these kinds of games hurt good people… and nothing in life is worth hurting someone you care for. It's easy to get jaded by what goes on at dog shows and forget the original reasone you got involved... which was to breed and show good dogs. For my part in all of this I am truly sorry.

It is very easy for all of us to sit back and "Arm Chair Quarterback" judges. It is also human nature to do it. Also to get our knickers in a knot when someone tells it how it is, whatever.
We all put our big boy/girl pants on everyday, at least I hope we do.
My thoughts, those who dislike how it is do something to change it besides grouse about it. Become a judge.
That requires a certian dedication to the sport not many are willing or able to give.
It is my goal and has been since day one of buying my first show dog. I too agree with the points made and for the 20th time I will repeat myself, and say, I will continue to applaud the efforts of the O/Hs.
As for any "Cheap Wins" in this direction.....LOL! All of my dogs, Vaako included have earned the Championship titles infront of their names.
JMO...

Exactly my point from a previous thread.
And quite frankly this topic is indeed a correlative with the thread on breeder control. Politics aside, I am quite capable of finishing a Doberman myself thank you very much. No contract needed obligating me to pay for a pro handler.
Sorry, but I am antipolitical and very much a do-it-yourself type of person.

oh, and you don't have to become a judge to change what is corrupt.

I'd love to become a judge. Problem is: need to finish a few. Catch 22. Oh, and I have a bumper sticker that reads: "If you do NOT have enemies, then you aren't doing anything worth while." I must have a bunch of worthwhile deeds. Plus, probably that next level of politics is that when you DO become a judge, they won't hire you unless you look at faces....AndyHilt, my brother...I am once again with you 100%. I'll show until I die. I love doing it, and hate the idea of needing a handler.
I'm not just ranting at the system. We can't address the problem until we specifically identify WHAT needs correction...okay, here's a rant...."I hate judges that do give us the points! WaaaaaWaaaa..." not particularly useful, but it feels good.:D

Ok, I am not bad mouthing the use of pro handlers. They provide a service. Often they provide a needed service. They are not the entire problem. The problem is this: One should not have to hire a pro to finish a Doberman.
What are the corrupt causes of this? What can we do to eliminate or at the very least reduce them?

I don't know the backstory, but having been at dog shows & in the ring w/you, I can only imagine.

ROFLMAO. signature line/bumper sticker/ DQ cartoon material right there.
Keep your txttxxs up girl. I read the Westm thread & then watched the dobers, and imagined what a statement we would make by showing up in mass. E1, E2, theAndyman, and anybody else who believes in the dog instead of the poop.
