Years ago at a dog show I came back to my truck and someone had allowed their dog to jump on my closed passenger door and left an arch of a scratch from their dog's toe nails. These are nasty and are worse than a grocery cart. In fact worse then the look of "keying" a car.
I am a dog nail freak!!! My dog's nails are always trimmed down with a dremil and not sharp.
Well...guess what...now with this new truck, it happened again! And...so what are you to tell your insurance carrier. Yeah...they sure would believe you that someone else did it and not you. This kind of stuff really gets to me.
Anyway, in results, first place in all the classes but no points. (owner handled) Right now I am so fed up with the dog world, I'm about to get out. Twice is too much. Now I have to live with this scratched door again that I got rid of on the other truck when I sold it, to only have it again!!
I am so careful in this because dogs just like to jump on doors to get into cars. But not others I guess and here we are again.

Congrats on winning "all" your classes. I forget, did you put her in 12-18 or in Open? I've lost track, where did you show? Who were the judges… how did you think she showed in winners? Who won the points? How many points were there?
About the scratch… will a rubbing compound help? Here are some products

12 to 18
Her behavior is not that of an open bitch.
1 Sweeps $11.00 won. Judge Mrs. Jan Hill
1 12-18 AM show. Judge Mrs. Nancy Liebs
1 12-18 PM show. Judge Mr. Eric Liebs
Show Superintendent: Mary Drake
Dog count: 13-12/4-5
When you handle your own it is too hard to see who got what.
Moe and Tammy both took breed and opposite sex today.
Today: 1, in 12-18
Jack Bradshaw Superintendent posts on Thursday
Judge: Robert J Caswell Jr.
Dog count: 11-12/4-4
However, I should put a cavaet on this. She was the only one in the class. But it is not unusual for a second with only one.
Her behavior was out of this world crazy. It is inside a major exhibit hall and when the judge went over her a train 20 feet away blew its horn. But as we go it is getting better and better.
Tomorrow's judge is: Mr. Arthur J. Davison Dog count is: 10-11/3-4
I'm not sure where I want to go in this right now. I spoke with a few of the pros and they agree that to show a dog you are looking at $25,000 to finish a dog easily.
Quite frankly, I really love horses better, and if I'm going to go in that much, I think I would rather have a horse.
I spent $25,000 on my R.P. bitch and have nothing but ashes on my fireplace. Horses don't just drop dead like Dobermans do after you drop so much money and effort. At least they are somewhat more sturdy.
Ch Cambria's Captain Fire and Brimstone, litter mate to Dino, and "Captain." just dropped dead at the feet of his owner on Valentine's day. She is sick. Ameridobes Precious Pearl dropped dead as well on New Year's Day. So right now, having experienced the same and spent $25,000on my bitch of late, I am in a quandry now of what I wish to do.
After this is over, I'm going to try and heal my truck. Thanks for the links.
Right now, I'm not sure what I will do with this puppy I have. I think I will wait and see what some other stuff turns out like. I would really love to be back in horses. That really is my first love and I can't afford to have/do both.
So in the meantime, I continue to owner handle. That may just be a waste of money too.

Ch Cambria's Captain Fire and Brimstone, litter mate to Dino, and "Captain." just dropped dead at the feet of his owner on Valentine's day.
My understanding is that Dino is the call name of CH. Cambria’s The Captain… they are one and the same dog. Dino is from a litter of four, that also included: Ch. Cambria’s Commander In Chief (a.k.a. Rogan), Ch. Cambria’s The Colonel and Cambria’s the Counsler. There was no littermate named Ch. Cambria's Fire and Brimstone, in fact Dobequest doesn't even show such a dog.
The story is very sad, and I am sorry for the sudden loss of someone's dog, but when we hear things like this ringside it always makes me wonder how many other facts are wrong. Next we’ll have someone telling us what the cause of death was, without ever having done an autopsy.
Btw, if you need a horse, I've got one for you.. and so does just about every other breeder on this planet :D ... this morning when I bought hay it was $28 a bale... A BALE!!! My guys go through more than 2 bales a day. Our trainer expects about $2K a month, wants a one year commitment and after the end of the year expects to own 30% of the horse. The $2K doesn't include show expenses, they're extra. At the end of the year the horse should be getting 75% in Material classes… he will be superbly conditioned, beautifully and appropriately trained for his level of progress… and we would just about break even selling him.:p
I never have a problem with people who say, "I don't want to breed or show." It's not for the faint of heart. I think you simply have to love something about the process, because it sure isn't easy, not in dogs or horses.

I may be wrong on the name of the dog. When I looked him up on Dobequest he was in there as one of the dogs of same parentage. He is a red dog.
What I do know is that the owner approached me last summer stating that this dog was a litter mate to those famous dogs. Her name is Lea Leadly. She wanted to breed for a puppy.
I have never seen the dog. What I heard, as she said, is that it was a take back rescue dog when she got it; and Linda Mattson showed him and finished him. So that is all I know. I heard this sad news at the dinner table at the show on Friday.
$28.00 for a bale of hay is outrageous. But my thinking was a home in Montana with a horse to just ride. The show ring was in the past for me. I want a gentle old riding horse. A horse that could take me into the mountains on trails safely would satisfy me. Maybe that is just dreaming.
Maybe the sport of any animals has gotten too rich for many of us.

P.S.
Tammy won the winner's dog today. The 6-9 puppy bitch won winner's bitch.
Moe and Tammy then took best of breed and opposite later on.
I dont know exactually who they were because when I show I don't buy a catalogue. I get a catalogue when I can sit and watch. Then it is important to know who's who because then you have the luxury to sit and watch and really look at what's going by.

Ch Cambria's Captain Firestorm. 10/17/03 WS05995808 /Cambria's Calivera Orien's Raspberry Beret

Well...I'm soon off to the last day of the show this weekend.
However, I sure noticed all of a sudden all the handlers showed up for Saturday's show unlike the the Speciality on Friday. Just an interesting observation.

When I chatted with Joan ( Rogan's owner) yesterday, there isn't a littermate to Dino and Rogan by that name.

Ok, back up for a second, I'm still trying to figure out why a dog (not your dog) would WANT to jump up on the door of your truck???
I've never had a dog of mine in a parking lot attempt to jump against the door of any truck/car/etc that didn't have:
a) a dog in the seat
b) a human in the seat with the window down
Are you smearing LIVER on the windows of your truck or what??:D

Apologies to Joan, I thought I had made it clear that the dog who died was NOT a littermate to Dino and Rogan. :)
Stir, now that I think about it, I have to agree with you, my dogs are about as obnoxious as it is possible to be, and even they to not jump on a vehicle unless provoked or enticed. I wonder if kissntell has the rotten luck of having something about her vehicle that is enticing… :o

You did make it abundantly clear. We were tagging on to it that you were right. I guess also to show that when something like that gets posted people will reach out to find out what was going on. We were worried about what that would have meant for Rogan if it were true and called Joan to see if she knew and how she was feeling.
She then confirmed that it was not true. I think she was unhappy that such a rumor was out there but I do not want to speak for, I know I would have been. I should have been more clear.

Let's not beat a dead horse. I posted the correction of name here in this thread. It took some work to find it. Not a littermate.

To go back to topic: it's happened to me, more than once. Obnoxious Golden's at an agility match scratched the snot outta my Dobermobile, whilst owner stands on the other end of the leads chitty-chatting w/a friend of hers. How is it that I got, not gave, the dirty look when I asked her to keep them off my truck??
And then the ball crazy GSD's inside my truck, but that's another story...
Right now it's Will n myBella telling me "We know we're at the woods -- open the door NOW" :p

I’ve seen it from the other perspective… we have a neighbor who, for reasons I could never fathom, used to think it was a good idea to bring her dog over to play with our Dobermans. No matter what I’d say, this woman would show up unannounced in my drive, with her dog, roll down her window and call our dogs over to her SUV. Warkant was out one day when she showed up. He was more than happy to oblige her and “ customized” her driver’s side door… it was an effective deterrent to her behavior. Not sure, but I think her husband buffed out the scratches with rubbing compound.
