Dear All,

The reputation of Kennel Club of India is dwindling by leaps and bounds;
it becomes a responsibility of all the members of the KCI and more so
that of the Managing Committee of KCI to ensure that the KCI acts as a
fair body without any favoritism of any kind.

It would be easy for any lay man to understand that the cause of all this
disrepute is only Mr. C.V. Sudarsan (‘CVS’). People are unable to
fathom why the KCI Committee consisting of upright and righteous people
have become mute spectators to all this. Is he blackmailing / arm
twisting them and doing away with things as he likes.

One glaring example to show that CVS can do what he wants is the issue
where a case has been filed against the KCI and members of the Agrani
Kennels alleging that certain export pedigrees and championship titles
submitted by them are false and fabricated.

The English Springer Spaniel “Wallylama’s Grand Slam” campaigned in
the last show season by Mr. Nagraj Shetty (Agrani Kennels) was brought to
India from the owner in Uruguay Ms. Clemencia Savadera on a pretext that
it will be jointly campaigned in all the owners’ names in India. Based
on this promise Mr. Nagraj Shetty was made a co owner of the dog in
Uruguay. But no Export Pedigree was ever issued in his name. Mr... Nagraj
Shetty submitted a fake Export pedigree in his name to the KCI, obtained
the Provisional No and showed the Dog in India. Ms.. Clemencia Savedra
the owner and breeder of the Spinger Spaniel in Uruguay has informed the
same to the KCI Committee, also the Kennel Club of Uruguay has written a
confirmation letter to the KCI Committee that it has never issued any
Export Pedigree for the said dog in name of Nagraj Shetty, these letters
are attached as Appendix 1 and 2 respectively. The KCI regulation that
submission Original Export
Pedigree is mandatory for allotment of Provisional Number is attached as
Appendix 3.

Another very important aspect to note here is that the Springer Spaniel
landed in India only on 17th November 2007 and was exhibited in the HyCan
show in Hyderabad on 18th November 2007. Did KCI grant the Provisional
Number overnight or did it allot the same even before the Dog landed in
India. The Hyderabad Canine Club does not take entries one day before the
show. Hence it is established beyond reasonable doubt that CVS and Mrs.
Sudarsan illegally allotted the Provisional Number violating all the
rules and regulations laid down by the KCI.

Mr. Nagraj Shetty also advertised three of his dogs a Welsh Corgi, an
Afghan Hound and a Giant Schnauzer in the IKG with many Championship
Titles including that of Chile. The Chilean Kennel Club on getting to
know of these advertisements wrote a letter to the KCI stating that the
said dogs were never Chilean champions yet no action was taken by the
KCI. Very strangely another similar advertisement was published in the
November 2008 issue of the IKG i.e. after the Chilean Kennel Club wrote
to the KCI. The letter from Kennel Club De Chile is attached as Appendix
4 herewith.

In every issue of the Indian Kennel Gazette it is clearly printed that if
any advertiser is found giving fake titles and winnings, the exhibitor
shall be banned from advertising in the IKG for a stipulated period of
time. But how can Agrani Kennels be allowed to advertise in the IKG even
after the Chilean kennel Club has written to the KCI, informing that the
dogs of Agrani Kennels advertised as Chilean Champions were never Chilean
Champions. This is yet another incident that glaringly shows the unethical
and arrogant behaviour of CVS and his favoritism to Nagraj Shetty and
Agrani Kennels.

A dog loving person has gathered all relevant material pertaining to the
illegalities being committed by Nagraj Shetty of Agrani kennels and being
ably assisted by CVS and Mrs. Sudarsan. Since the KCI has not taken any
action or rather was not willing to take action and a suit was filed in
the Hon’ble Civil Court Chennai questioning the inaction of KCI. The
Hon’ble court passed an order on 19th December that pending final
disposal of the case Mr. Nagraj Shetty and others be prohibited from
exhibiting dogs in the shows.

Mr. and Mrs. C V Sudarsan who were present in Gurgaon did not come to the
show ground to avoid taking the order copy and thereby facilitate Mr.
Nagraj Shetty (Agrani Kennels) to show his dogs. Mr. Shharat Sharma the
Secretary of the Gurgaon Kennel Club also refused to take the order copy
and this clearly shows that CVS’ instructions to Mr. Shharat Sharma. It
is to be noted that there was no order from any court to stopping the show
or prohibiting Mr. Sudarsan from judging. Copy of the order is attached as
Appendix 5.

Facts that establish the unholy and unethical nexus between CVS, Mrs.
Rukmni Sudarsan and Nagraj Shetty (Agrani Kennels) are as under:

1. Agrani Kennels has not filed any petition before the Civil
Court to vacate the stay and has not denied the allegations made against
them.

2. In the Petition filed before the High Court Agrani Kennels
has stated that for any fraud committed as alleged the KCI imposes only
penalty and does not ban the exhibitor from showing. Agrani Kennels has
taken the same stand in the Supreme Court also and has never denied
having submitted fake pedigrees. Does KCI’s silence in this matter
affirm what Agrani Kennels is saying?

3. The most shocking part is that the KCI has become a mute
spectator to all these proceedings and has not filed any counter to any
of the proceedings and thereby has neither denied nor accepted the
allegations made. If the allegations made are false the KCI should have
said the same before the Hon’ble Civil Court and produced a copy of the
pedigree that Agrani Kennels have submitted. Why is the KCI not speaking
on this?

4. In normal circumstances as would any prudent organization the
KCI ought to check the records available with it vis-ŕ-vis the
allegations made and come out with a its stand either confirming or
denying the allegations made. Instead the KCI is acting indifferently to
the issue. The onus of verifying records and stating the truth lies more
on the KCI than on Agrani Kennels.

5. The very fact that KCI is indifferent and callous to the
allegations made show that CVS, Mrs. Rukmani Sudarsan and Agrani Kennels
and hand in glove with each other. At this stage we do not wish to go
into the issue of the material gratification CVS and Mrs. Sudarsan
receive from Agrani Kennels, which shall be dealt in detail at an
appropriate time with all material evidence.

6. CVS and Mrs. Sudarsan in normal course implement the rule
book very strictly when normal exhibitors are concerned and similarly for
the Advertisements in IKG CVS gives a tough time to normal exhibitors
asking for proof of winnings and titles, why are these rules and
regulations are blindly over looked when Nagraj Shetty or Agrani Kennels
are concerned.

7. All this boils down to this – Are the allegations true or
false, if true what action KCI will take? Why is KCI not speaking
anything? How can CVS being the secretary of KCI openly promote and
shield Nagraj Shetty?

8. The Dog loving community all over India is aware of the
illegalities and frauds being perpetrated by Agrani Kennels and CVS’
connivance with them. The Dog loving community has immense faith in the
Chairman and the Committee of the KCI who should rise up to the occasion
and take suitable Corrective and Preventive Actions in the interest of
the Dog game in India in general and the reputation of KCI in particular.
The Committee may verify the records of the KCI and ascertain truth or
otherwise about the allegations of fake export pedigrees and fake
championship titles and appropriate action may be taken.

In these circumstances if nothing is forthcoming from the Chairman and the
Committee of the KCI, the dog loving people in India shall be constrained
to conclude that the inaction of the Committee is either due to fear of
CVS or that the KCI Committee is spineless and have sold their conscience
to CVS or are hand in glove with CVS.

Yours truly,

A DOG LOVER

PS – This is not a hate mail intended to malign any individual/ss. The main purpose of this letter is to showcase the alleged state of affairs at the KCI and the need for the KCI to act in a transparent and dispassionate manner in the larger interest of the game.

Dear All,

In furtherence to the matter of Agrani and the Kennel Club of India, we hope that an enquiry will be constituted to look into the irregularities committed in the registration of dogs owned by Agrani Kennels, especially since formal letters have been sent from FCI affiliated clubs asking for an explanation by the KCI.

While this will be a positive step in the right direction, it would also be relevant to know the composition of the investigative committee, if indeed there is going to be one. Dog lovers must stand as one, speak with a single voice and demand that:

1. An enquiry is conducted in this matter and more specifically by a panel of committee members of the KCI. This must be a meticulously thought out committee comprising of impartial and unbiased members of good standing and impeccable reputation, who will adjudicate on the case without fear or favour. This is vitally important, as the enquiry cannot and must not be carried out by the protagonists of the entire episode. A committee must be constituted with immediate effect to look into the errors of ommission and commission.

2. In the name of fairness and transparency, the two main "accused" in this case i.e. Mr C V Sudarsan, the Secretary and Mrs C V Sudarsan, the CEO must step down, or be made to step down, with immediate effect until such time as the final outcome of the enquiry is completed.

3. In the event that the two office bearers named above are exonerated, then it stands to reason that their current status be restored without prejudice. However, if found guilty, the laws of natural justice should be applied.

4. In case of CVS and Mrs Sudarsan's suspension, the need to appoint an interim CEO and Secretary is paramount. With the Kennel Club of India being based in Chennai, there is no dearth of capable and upright replacements, as the Committee of the KCI has several highly respected and honest individuals in it's ranks.

To sum it up, It is up to Members and Committee members of the Kennel Club of India to take the cue and ensure that a fair and impartial enquiry is conducted so that the innocent are proclaimed innocent and the guilty brought to book.

A Dog Lover.

Note: This is not a hate mail and not intended in any way to malign any individual or individuals. The main purport of this letter is to showcase the state of affairs at KCI and the need for the KCI to act in a transparent and dispassionate manner in the larger interest of the game.

Just received this, an article printed in The Times of India. I am making no comment on this story... rather I am copying what is in print in India. I have been told that at least one other news source published in Chennai has mentioned Sudarsan’s name and that he is the Secretary of the KCI. Apparently this is quite a story over there.

I thought AKC shows were bad not even close to this. If I were them and these people were still alllowed to show these dogs I would pull my dog as should others in protest. The dogs could gain no points if there is no one to compete against.

I think there are many great dog people in India, it is sad to what they do tarnished by this situation. Like any areas of our lives, there are good people who do the right thing and act with honor and integrity, and there are people at the other end of the spectrum, who act with malice and self-interest, hurting people and breaking laws as they go, usually leaving a wide path of destruction in their wake. Eventually life catches up with them. :)
