Jana,

Just a thought, but you might want to go to your first thread on this post and change the title to specifically identify your litter, either by your kennel name or by the sire and dam, or anything that makes it obvious to viewers just looking at thread titles who your by and out of. Also, you can change your personal information on DSNN to include links to your website (so that every post you make will include a link to your website). You can post photos of your bitch (show and informal photos) and any other photos that show people who you have. If you don’t’ have a website yet you may wish to post the Dobequest link to her pedigree. People like to see photos.. photos draw interest.

If you have any problems email me and I will help you.

Just noticed that Arthur posted a photo of the litter. I was thinking, "Where the heck did he get a photo of someone else’s litter?" ... then I realized he copied it from the link provided.

I’ve been busy these past few days, mowing the mare's big pasture... still only half done... it’s a long process. Here’s an image that will make you laugh out loud, I was out there yesterday in my bathing suit on the mower  … trying to combine mowing with tanning, a terrifying sight to be sure. :o:rolleyes: but I don't want that "farmer's tan." :(

And of course, I was up all last night ‘cause I am burned to a crisp… but just in front, I’m pasty white on my reverse side. :p Should be a great look. :D

Well, look at the bright side: at least you can lay/sit on your backside -- my human rotesserie usually leaves me crispy all over, which makes simple things incredibly painful.

Those puppies are purrrfect. I leaned to the screen so's I could smell the yummy puppy scent, then caught myself being blonde again. :sigh:

Woweeee!!! Some really nice puppies, these. Noticed good fronts & necks, excellent toplines, good rears, tail sets, good bone among other virtues.

Great. Good luck as they grow. Would love to see more pics as the grow up.

Very nice litter Jana… very nice. I agree with Minaz's assessment above. Can you tell us about them, what are their temperaments like, are they all placed? Do you have more photos of the dam, other than the one on Dobequest?

I believe they are all spoken for. I've only spent one afternoon/evening with them. Very happy, wagging tails and outgoing. I have 7 week stacked pictures. I will see if I can post them.

WOW! Yellow is lovely! I like white too! Ya know, I have this one empty space on my bed that yellow would fit just right in!

We are taking the black (pink collar) bitch. The other breeder is keeping one of the boys, probably the black one. I'll go get mine in a little over a week. Ears were done yesterday.
there "might" end up being one girl available, depends on who the person looking today picks.

Elaine

Sounds great… the girl you're keeping is lovely... I hope we get to see more of these guys as they mature. Since you've had your hands on them, what did you all think of the yellow collared red girl?

Jana
05-09-2009, 04:35 PM
Yellow is a gorgeous girl. ALOT of her and a little too much rear for me, Very flashy, a little less rear and she might have been my favorite. I love the front half of her.

Jana

Yes, she is going to a show home in Texas who will co-own her with Joanne (the breeder).

Thanks, we are excited. Now we are trying to think of the perfect name. The theme is horses. I don't want to go with the ones that have been used over and over.
I like Stop The Music, Street Sense, and have looked and looked for others. I've run out of places to look. Would like to find a cute call name to go along with what I choose. I tend to go nuts trying to name puppies!! Make myself and everyone else crazy!! Doesn't have to be a famous horse, just some that sounds good.

One of our volunteers names her pups after famous Thoroughbred racehorses: Lammtarra, Shahrastani, Sky Classic are a few. Very romantic :)

IF you are looking for Thoroughbred racehorse names go to this link here... http://www.bloodhorse.com/stallion-register/ and search the categories to the right... you will find more than enough names to chose from.

Given that Dobermans are a German breed, originating in Germany, and that we breed Warmblood Sporthorses, using imported semen from the great warmblood stallions standing in Germany (or imported from Germany), we name our dogs after Warmblood Sporthorses. We chose names of horses who have made outstanding contributions, either in FEI sport or in German Warmblood breeding. For example, Fein Cera was one of the finest, most talented and most beautiful Olympic quality Show Jumping mares of recent times (you can find video of her from the 2002 Olympics in Jerez, Spain). And Halla was a tremendous Show Jumping mare from the 1950’s who was something of a German National hero for securing Team GOLD by completing her final round of show jumping (at the Olympics) largely unaided by her rider, who had pulled a groin muscle and was in so much pain he could do little more than sit the horse. Halla basically had to flawlessly navigate an Olympic Show Jumping course, in a jump off, all by her self. She did, and Germany won the Gold Medal.

The USA Olympic Dressage Team mare Brentina (imported from Germany) is the USA’s greatest dressage mare ever in our country’s history. Warkant is one of the great Foundation sires for the Hanoverian Verband, Butterfly Flip was a talented Show Jumper, DeNiro is one of the most influential Oldenburg and Hanoverian dressage sires of recent times, and on and on. Each and every one of the names we’ve chosen is a reference to great talent in one discipline or another. We try to match even the personality of the horse with the dog. For example, Almé was named after a great French Show Jumper who could be a bit of a hot-head at times. You might ask E2 if the name fits.

Jana it might be a tad late - but might i suggest horses that have won the melbourne cup(they call it the race that stops a nation ) - the one horse that gets Australian's all worked up is a red thats long gone- the ozzie version of your sea bisquit - Phar Lap

The other thing I drool at is Arab Horses and the breeders have some nice names- plenty to pick from

Elaine
05-13-2009, 09:53 AM
Here is a link to the story of Phar Lap... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phar_Lap

there was a more recent import from your neck of the woods, the stallion Heroicity... owned by a dear friend from New Zealand, grand horse, we saw him in 2005... tragically he died a few months later.

Minka
05-13-2009, 05:49 PM
Heroicity won the Bmw Cup- your friends must have been rolling in cash if they owned him outright then bit before my time.
Mordern heroes include the 10 year old geilding Takeover Target bought by his trainer a cab driver for $3000/4000 - he refuses to loose has traveled the world and is still going
Elvestrom who won in dubai , the peerless Makaybe Diva , Sebring who found his way into stallion heaven on earth (the stud farm ) after he won the golden slipper

Elaine
05-13-2009, 06:24 PM
Janice McDonald (who is a dear friend) owned Heroicity after his performance career was over, so no, she did not cash in on him. Heroicity was very special to Janice and he holds a very special place in my heart as well.

We saw him at Hilltop Farm in Colora, Maryland in July of 2005 when he was presented to (and approved by) Dr. Christmann, the Breeding Director of the German Hanoverian Verband. Heroicity is one of very few Thoroughbred stallions ever approved for Hanoverian breeding both here in the USA and for the Verband in Germany. He was an amazing stallion who had retired sound and unblemished from a career that included the equivilent of winning the Triple Crown in your part of the world. Heroicity died shortly after he was Approved, but some of his frozen semen remains, so he may still have an impact on Warmblood breeding.

Given that this is Jana's thread about her Trotyl litter, maybe we should get back to talking about how lovely they all are... and how nice it'd be if she named one Phar Lap and another Heroicity. :D Funny how the animal makes the name great and not the other way around. There was a very good Lhasa Apso sire in the late 1970's early 1980's - Ch. San Jo’s Raagi Lookie Mei - who's call name was Yucci, pronouced "Yucky." We spoke of Yucci with reverence. ;)

Jana

So how do you pronounce Heroicity??

Elaine
05-13-2009, 09:09 PM
Hero - icity (with a short "i" sound and the word "city"

or call me and I’ll pronounce it for you. :)

Speaking of him here makes his memory very vivid… he was a great stallion… very sad about his loss. There is a lawsuit pending for medical negligence… very sad.

Jana
05-13-2009, 09:10 PM
that was my guess. Thanks
Would be good if her sire was Hero.

Elaine
05-13-2009, 09:15 PM
Sure…

In some equine circles Heroicity was very special… a bit like Bold Ruler or Babamist… stallions that for one reason or another really stand on their own.

Btw, here is a link to Babamist that has some great equine names on it http://www.lanefieldfarm.com/babamist.htm Mary Hazard is Bruce Davidson's breeding partner and long time friend.

And speaking of racing, did you all see that Kevin Plank (founder of Under Armour) recently bought Sagamore Farm? The Sun recently featured the farm and Plank:

http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/horseracing/bal-sp.sagamore10may10,0,7311657.story

Of course there is a big Preakness section. I was reading about the injuries sustained by Friesan Fire in the Derby and apparently they used some new product called "Eclipse" to heal him faster to be ready for Preakness. It's like a crazy glue for torn flesh? Apparently it allows wounds to heal quickly and with little to no scarring. Has anyone heard of or used it?

Elaine
05-13-2009, 10:07 PM
Speaking of the Preakness, the sensational filly Rachel Alexandra who won the Grade 1, $554,500 Oaks by a stunning 20 1/4 lengths, the largest margin since at least 1910, which is as far back as the track's records go will be running against the boys in the Preakness. Since jockey Calvin Borel rode both Rachel Alexandra and the Derby winner Mine That Bird, I wonder which of the two he’ll ride in the Preakness. Mine that Pird has drawn the #2 post postion and Rachel Alexandra is#13 on the far outside (a position that no horse has ever won from in the Preaknesss).

Edited, I think Borel has the ride on Rachel Alexandra... many have her heavily favored to win.

I suspect Jana likes " Heroicity" and not "Phar Lap" - they are names that carry heavy expectations Jana - but im sure your pups will kill the show ring .

Yup. There's the rub...let me just chime in here...I have tungsten, which in and of itself is hard enough to pronounce when its cold, much less when working with deaf or developmentally disabled....then there's wahajama...the folks at work just call her Bob. Then there's Bob's sister, who not only has an unpronounceable name, but one that cannot be easily written (does vacuum have one c and 2 u's, or 2 A's and one c...) hence my avoidance. She's just lucky they call her Way or Vee and not Wedgie, wedgiemama, Vegimite...oh Elaine, just in case I haven't said it lately...THANKS SOOOOOO MUCH FOR THOSE NAMES!!!!!!! For the dog that I named, how about Peter, Be, and Moose and Faith...ahem....LOL!!!

Just got off the phone with Janice... we’ve been talking for over an hour… we laughed till we cried about a certain rabbit… that she may name a horse after.:D Hate to think what the phone bill for a call from New Zealand is. :o

Anyway, it seems that our multi-Olympic Eventing champion Bruce Davidson wants to do an ET (embryo transfer) with Heroicity... on one of Bruce's very best Eventing mares. It would be such a happy footnote to all of this to have Heroicity's great sons and daughters competing in Eventing in the Olympics, Rolex, Badminton and Burghley in the years to come. Sometimes the next generation is all that life offers us… and sometimes that is enough, I really hope so, for Janice and for Heroicity’s legacy. :)

Thanks for sharing Rachael Alexandra's picture. She's lovely!

I must have missed Brenna's post about names. Weihaiwej is a name and a half for sure. At first I was trying to say weehiwedge ROFL. Now it's Vee or her pet name and don't even ask how it came about.....B Burt! However she seems to love it. Elaine, maybe she didn't like Weihaiwej????<G> I get some funny looks and always "and how do you spell that?" whenever I've had to give her proper name<G>.

Love the puppy Jana… really really very nice. You are going to have a lot of fun with her. :)

As for Rachel Alexandra… it’s a lovely name… she’s a very nice filly. It’s probably a good thing your husband doesn’t follow racing more closely… Zenyatta is an absolutely spectacular mare http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wiKc8j5tUZo but she has one of those Thoroughbred names that makes you cringe.:o

Zenyatta.....didn't Mike Smith ride her in the breeders cup?

I love that show Jockeys on the Animal Planet.

Elaine
05-31-2009, 11:21 AM
Yes, Mike Smith (who road Mine That Bird to a close second behind Rachel Alexandra in the Preakness) is Zenyatta’s regular jockey. Many in racing are hoping for a match race between Zenyatta and Rachel Alexandra. And Calvin Borel (who road Mine That Bird to a win in the Kentucky Derby, and then switched to RA for the Preakness) is expected to be back on MTB for the Belmont. The problem is that Borel knows the Churchill Downs track very well, but he does not race at Belmont.. and some feel Mine That Bird will benefit from most from a jockey who knows the track.

In a race with RA, Zenyatta may prove to be the better of the two race horses... but in Dobermans, Jana's Rachel Alexandra looks like she is in a class by herself. Very nice puppy! :)
