Here is a problem that every breeder will face eventually, in one form or another. You allow your stud dog to be used, the litter is not what you hoped for, with one or two exceptions, the litter should never be part of a breeding program because the breeding combination simply did not work. The puppies should be sold to pet homes. You convey this to the bitch owner.

The bitch owner goes behind your back to other people, respected Doberman people, who, in a well-intentioned but misguided effort to be “polite” tell this rat bastard that the puppies are “nice” … which this moron construes as “oh joy, I can sell them for big bucks." Money seems to be all this guy cares about.

So, this pimple on the butt of life offers the puppies to foreigners, who seem totally incapable of evaluating dogs. The POTBOL is only interested in money and in selling.

Fast forward two years, you see a photo of one of the puppies at maturity, in the hands of someone in India, who wants to breed her. He is the second owner in India, the first owner bred her and had a litter from her when she was about 15 months old, then he sold her on. She is a mediocre pet… she absolutely should not be bred. Do you say to the current owner, “Please, do not breed her, she is not of good enough quality to be bred. What on earth will you do with all these puppies, in India?”

If you say that, you fear that the current owner will let her starve or live out her days ignored and abused. If you don’t say something, you fear that the current owner will breed her. He says, she has “something to offer the breed." The fact that he could form and express such an opinion of her speaks to what he does not know about a well constructed Doberman.

Do you try to buy the bitch back from India? Do you tell the POTBOL that he needs to get the bitch back from India and find her a good home? (He is the one who profitted from the sale, he needs to be accountable). Btw, He is now supposedly divorced and living in Puerto Rico, trying to talk some other breeders into breeding to his Trotyl - Missy daughter. He even approached Ron and Jim about breeding his Trotyl daughter back to Trotyl.

Do you go back to the well-intentioned people who encouraged the POTBOL to believe that Piper and Rich were of quality, over your opinion that they were not (one even allowed himself to be photographed by the POTBOL stacking the puppies, which predictably, the POTBOL used for marketing Piper and Rich) and have them contribute to a fund to try to buy the bitch back from India?

What to do?

My vote is to buy the bitch back, then place her in a good pet home.

I'll back my vote w/a donation towards the cost; the well-intentioned who truly care about the situation may do the same thing.

I don't think he will sell her back without a replacement... supposedly they paid Jose $8,000.00 for her. Who here wants to send a bitch to India to take her place? :(

And since it came up in a conversation today, POTBOL = pimple on the butt of life

Seems you have a bit of larceny in your heart.:D

I am sure there are many fine homes in India...and many caring, responsible dog breeders and owners in India, but I think it's fair to say that - as a whole - they have a poor track record for rescue and they seem to regard a dog as an expendable commodity.

I would not send a dead rat on a stick to the home Piper first had in India, I fear that her current home is about the same (though they may do the honorable thing and see that she is spayed and placed in a loving forever home). THeir reputation is on the line here. Frankly, if they can not do that for Piper, then they probably cannot do it for the puppies they breed (who should not be contributing back to the gene pool). If a breeder can not properly place the non -breedable puppies they produce in good home then they should not be breeding.

I fear they purchased her to make her a puppy factory.
