Will was originally a service dog for a woman with emotional diffifulties. When she could not handle the responsibilities, Lou's Mom stepped up to the challenge. She took the boy in and gave him a great life. He was sadly diagnosed with DCM, and his house suffered another great loss when Will suddenly died this afternoon. We have all lost so many, but the pain of each loss only gets harder. We many only find pleasure in that we were priviledged to have known these special souls during their brief time on earth. May God hold him and all our cherished kindly in His hand (and provide a Celestial Squirrel game for the chase to our special friend's content). Carol, we all grieve with you. And you will always know that you are never alone. As a glance down at Will's sister Faith, I cherish every minute as her time too, grows ever shorter.

Carol,
I am so sorry for your loss... it is never easy to let these precious creatures go, never. Know that we are all here for you, we grieve with you at the loss of Will.
Possibly we are getting closer to having a way to screen for DCM. Here’s hoping we use the available science wisely… for the benefit of the dogs.

Aw, Carol, I'm so sorry. They never stay as long as we want them to...

Didn't see it coming, other than that he'd been on cardio meds since January. Last checkup showed his heart murmur had actually improved!
We've had some great walkies in the woods in the past several months, figured he was lagging behind Bella cuz he's letting her be Queen. A friend came to get some furniture, and he ran back in the house for another round of barking before hanging in the back yard: he made it 20 feet and just collapsed. By the time I closed Bella out & hollered to my friend to come in, he had no pulses, or even any palpable heart activity. I did CPR for a little bit while my paramedic buddy grabbed my stethescope and listened, confirming death shortly thereafter.
Bella got to say goodbye, and checked the spot several times that evening. The next day she was flat ALL day, and we both miss him very much. Mornings just aren't quite the same without his happy dancing feet & bright smile.
In a huge irony, his first human is moving back to Abq in 2 weeks. I wouldn'tve given him back, but he woulda been ever so happy to see her... :(

You'll remember Logan passed way in September: that's when Brenna introduced me to this forum.

Lost my darling Nyx May of 07...
She helped raise Logan, and showed Will what it meant to be a mountain dog when he'd come up for sleepovers.
Cellphone snap of her & Logan trying out some new woods gear (and yes, needing their toesies done)
