It is with great sadness I let everyone know Kayla went to the bridge this am.
She was diagnosed early April with bone cancer.
She went peacefully in my arms, knowing she was adored. Kayla was 9 1/2 years old.
Kayla was adopted from DAR&E in 2000. She was our very first exposure to rescue and DAR&E.
We trekked to Athy's house and picked up a 7 month old red wiggle butt who truly came home and began ruling our world.
Kayla educated quite a few foster boys and def ruled their world while they were here:)
Kayla was a typical red girl who let everyone know she was queen.
She will be sorely missed.
She will be greeted at the bridge by 3 brothers (Chance, Riley and Romeo) she has lost over the years and I have no doubt it will be joyous reunion.
We love you baby.

So sorry to hear that. My thoughts are with you. :(

As someone posted up on another site after reading that my Will had passed:

"You were made as well as we could make you."
"But not to last."
"The light that burns twice as bright burns for half as long - and you have burned so very, very brightly..."

I am so sorry for your loss. Seems we never have enough time with these sweet precious gifts from god, but the time we have with them – whatever the length- is worth the pain of having to let them go.

Take care, we are all here for you, we've all been there.

Thank you everyone for the very kind thoughts regarding our loss of Kayla.
I wanted to share a little about her so you can get a jist of her personality.
Kayla was dumped at 7 months old at a shelter in Baltimore by gals that were keeping her locked in a bathroom.
Athy picked her up, and after a thorough home visit, reference check, vet checks etc I was able to meet her. :)
Kayla came in, immediately took over our home (she was a red gal ya know:) became boss to my male. Over the years when we had been fostering, she put all the boys in their place from the moment they put their paw in our home.
Kayla had a larger than life personality. She took over our bed, our life and def our hearts. She remained a mile a minute gal, always contemplating her next move, and never stopped thinking.
We adopted several of our foster boys over the years and all knew she was the queen.
She kept our yard rabbit free, many a time bringing them in the dog door for Mommy to see. eeeekkkkk.
She sat at DAR&E board meetings on everyone's laps, mooching food and making sure everyone knew how beautiful she was.
She thankfully was very healthy her entire life until her recent diagnosis of bone cancer.
She will be so sorely missed.

Kayla was definitely one of a kind - a true queen. She was dumped at a local shelter down in Baltimore because her owners felt she was too much trouble to care for. They were locking her up in the bathroom for 10-12 hours at a clip while they were at work. Kayla would take advantage of the time to redecorate the bathroom in her own creative styling. Kayla was a big fan of the unstructured look and felt that towels should always be fringed and that shower curtains worked best when they were balled up inside the bathtub.

I was so glad we got her. Life in a bathroom is no way for a queen to live! Here is a shot of Kayla at my house, before she went to live with Kathleen. As you can see, she was quite the saucy girl :) She and Kathleen made a fiery pair of hot mamas. I know the world is a little dimmer because Kayla has left it but boy heaven is probably rocking right now!

Heaven really is rocking fer sure. :)
Today is the first day in over 9 years that I was able to make my bed.
Kayla has always had a "thing" for comforters, etc.
Even just taking in off putting in closet wasnt enough sometimes as she would work her way in and chew.
I spent a small fortune over comforters over the years.
Kayla would also allow the boys to get close to her at many of the DAR&E functions and when they did, she would show them in a split second she was true queen. She would bat her pretty eyes with a "come hither" and they would fall for it evey time.
I love Kayla heart and soul but she also made me NEVER want to consider a young pup again. LOL. I had raised 2 boys from 8 weeks old and another female from 8 weeks old and aint a one of them could compare with her antics.
