I have a friend that has a black lab. The dog had an injury on the neck in the middle of the throat. The dog is fine, but the hair grew back in...you guessed it, WHITE!!! There's a square about 3/4 inch by one inch that is mostly white. He knows that its okay to show a dog with "battle scars" but feels it is distracting to the judge in the conformation ring. How do people deal with these spots? If the hair was plucked, it would leave a bald spot which would be just as bad. How can this issue be resolved?

"Nice and Easy" hair color.....available at wal-mart or any drug store chain. I know a lab breeder/judge that advised this for Eva's white spot on her chest. So I am sure in all their years they tried a few things. I never used it though. Eva's spot was well within the breed standard and I really felt no need to hide it. A scar is quite different though....it has nothing to do with genetics (most likely) so I feel it should be dressed up a bit to its formal beauty.

I am really glad I have breeds that do not need a lot of grooming and primping. Nails, teeth, whiskers, trim a few stray hairs and viola. Anything else is superfluous.

One afternoon I was watching a gentleman primp his Crested while I was waiting on Tabitha in the group ring. Fluff fluff powder fluff fluff powder. Now why would a dog need powder to complete the assignment it was bred for???

That was my old failsafe, but it didn't work. Thanks tiburon for the idea! I would have NEVER thought of that!
