Not sure if you all know this, but Brentina has four brothers. The one we never hear about is “Tag” … Logres You’re It, a fawn male that I always thought resembled Dwight D. Eisenhower. :D :p
Tag has been the beloved companion of Mark and Louise Van Alstyne since he was 12 weeks old. He has all the endearing characteristics of the red males, with a dash of something else, not quite sure what to call it, but he was the largest puppy in the litter, the most active, the most vocal, the most demanding of attention… just “the most”.. a dog that marches to his own drummer. :)
Louise and her husband Mark are dear old friends, dog handlers who retired to become AKC judges, and then went back to handling, because it is what they truly love. Together they have well over 60 years experience owning, breeding and showing dogs, mostly Great Danes, and more BIS than I can count.
I just got this email from Louise… near as I can tell, she is on the road showing… it made me laugh, thought you all might enjoy it too.
Well I came back to my motel after group. Carried everything in, took dogs in as it was hot out and the room is air conditioned. Turned around and went back out for my laptop and dog dishes so I could feed before meeting for dinner. I had two hours. Came back, and my room would not open. Went and got another key, would not work. Went and got anybody who works here. Key would not work. Now mind you Tag is inside the door whining. She called the owner who called for maintenance. He lives two miles away, he could not get it open. Broke the door handle, unscrewed everything. Put new batteries in the door, still no luck. Tag is still crying. Finally I said what would you do if it was a small child. He said break the window. Ok now were getting somewhere. Two and a half hours later, we break window, double window, we break both. Reach in, unlock window, Warning not to fall off ladder, over air conditioner, and assure them I am positive they have wonderful insurance coverage. Louise crawls up ladder and into room, stepping over glass. Dogs are freaked out, now I have a broken door, and a broken window, motel is full for the weekend. Louise wants bottom floor.
Louise gets King suite, on bottom floor and airline miles. They move me, but dogs are still freaked out. My two courageous dogs were hiding on the other side of the bed, laying down, when I crawled thru window. Now they both come running with glee, into broken glass, I screaming to get back, heck, they wanted protection from somebody breaking into their room. After all I must be there to save them. I used to feel secure with them sleeping in my room, little did I know, I was there to give them security. Husband is driving cross country, and phone now has no service. So I can't even call him and whine. So I just had to tell someone.
