I was just browsing the results on infodog and have a question.
At the Butler County Kennel Club show on Sept 19, 2009, there were only 3 dogs present, each in a different class.
One dog has a 1 in front of his name. Ok, he won his class of one.
The next dog has a 1RWH. At first, I took this to mean 1st place due to being the only dog in the class, Ribbon WithHeld.
But the other dog was marked 1WWH. No points were awarded.
Now I am confused. Was this judge saying that of the 3 dogs none were of merit to be awarded Winner's Dog? but letting us know which of the 3 she disliked the most?
I have seen judges give a second place ribbon to a dog in a class of one, thereby keeping them out of contention for the points. Have also seen judges withhold a ribbon for lack of merit but never have I seen a dog picked as WD and then have it withheld. Same for Reserve.
Any judges care to comment on proper protocol or explain what the catalog markings actually did mean?
I sure would like to understand.
The judge was Nancy S. Amburgey.
Thanks, Tina

Just got off the phone with Jane (Forsyth). I read her your post. She agrees with your interpretation of what the judge likely meant... i.e., that RWH = ribbon withheld and WWH might mean Winners WithHeld. So, essentially the judge liked on of the entries well enough to send it on to Winners, but not enough to award points. Yeah for this judge.
