Little Lyla passed yesterday evening after getting a clean bill of health from the vet just an hour or so before. The poor girl never even had the chance to see the world. She died peacefully with a full belly snuggling with her mama on the heating pad. So sad.

Lyla was not a very strong pup from the beginning. She seemed healthy but just not very strong. Tabitha's milk pretty much just dried up. We fed her every day. In the early morning hours yesterday Lyla was just not eating well. We took her temp and was low. We got her warmed up and fed her two feedings of pedialyte and honey with a tube feeder. She bounced back. We took her to the vet that afternoon. She was doing great. Eating well, nose nice and pink, warm, strong cry.....My wife went to get herself and my daughter dinner. My mother was at our home watching the puppy and my daughter. While picking up food my wife had an uncontrollable urge to rush home to feed the baby even though she had just eatin less than an hour prior to that. She came into to the house, my mother made the comment that Lyla was all tuckered out and looked so peaceful. My wife realized Lyla was gone. She picked up Lyla's warm body and tried to bring her back.
I wish there was something more we could have done...we tried our best to keep her alive. It is amazing how attached you can get to something in 9 days and 8 hours. Poor Tabitha just keeps looking for her and crying. Eva and Amelia seem oblivious to what happened. The rest of us are pretty sad around here.

Andy, I am so saddened to hear this news. Nobody will ever know why these sweet angels get called home. We have to believe it is because the good Lord has a bigger plan for them... After all, He seems to take the very best.
Please know that you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Give Tabitha a big hug from us.
Godspeed sweet Lyla.

There really are no words to say at a time like this… it is never easy to loose them, especially when they are so young. It sometimes eases the heart a bit to know that they were loved every moment… however brief. We have to trust that this is all a part of “The Plan,” even if we mere mortals can’t make sense of it at the time. But make no mistake, these precious kids make an impact in our lives, no matter how short the time they are with us. Godspeed Lyla...

Oh Andy I am so very sorry about your loss. It is so sad when that happens and it has happened to me too so I know how fast we become attached to the puppies. Sometimes no matter what we do they slip away and it is just so heartbreaking for us and their dam.
BIG hugs

Thank you everyone for your thoughts and kind words. Time and weather prohibited me so we buried Lyla today and will be planting a lilac bush near the spot in the spring.
