I would like feedback here...there was a horrid rash of blindness at some shows i recently attended. Dobermans that were terrified of judges. Not puppies. Full grown adults. Not one was excused. Does anyone else feel that an utterly incorrect temperament is as important as a full white blaze or a bazillion missing teeth? Would you show a dog that was crippled with dysplasia, or had blue eyes (dobermans) or was blind, deaf, or missing parts? In my world of a true working doberman, dogs with horrid temperaments are NOT dobermans. To put those dogs in the group rings, for the impressionable general public to weigh in on, does our breed a huge injustice. I spend hours a day doing public education with regards to dobies. We try to diffuse the urban legend sterotypes of our breed and try to demonstrate why our breed is no longer psychotic, untrustworthy, and evil. Then, the judge puts the very dog I try to dispell into the group ring because it makes a lovely silhouette. Yup. that kind of shadow that skulks away after fear-biting someone. What ARE the judges thinking? Are they afraid to withold? Do they think the body is the only part that counts? I am SHAMED when such a dog takes the breed, because it reflects that it has defeated less correct dogs to get there. That is utter and complete MALE BOVINE FECES!!! I have no problem being defeated by worthy dogs. BUT, if that is the ONLY option, PLEASE WITHOLD RIBBONS!!! It is a public disgrace.:mad::mad: Please, in this day and age of breed specific legislation, and canine good citizenship, and responsible dog ownership, let us show the public a PROPER dog. One they can point to and say, "Wow! What a dog!!!". Too many people approched me at these shows asking what the breed dog's 'problem was'. All I can say is "Here, love on this one." Also, as exhibitors, we need to demonstrate responsibility too. If you would proudly show a dog with disqualifying physical faults without regret, then this does not apply to you. Train your dogs. Breed what is worthy. Show what is exceptional. Leave those that are not up to public scrutiny in their homes. Remember, "For whom the bell tolls...It tolls for thee." We are all in this together.
