Does anyone know if the vote was taken for who were at the meeting or just the officers????? Trying to see who voted for this change..... Why wasn't it put to the full membership to decide what was done with the archives????? Why wasn't there a complete pro and con done on this so folks understood??? There has been some good discussion on this just wonder if it was a good thing or not? Personally I think we have lost something here that shouldn't have been.....

We are a bit stunned by this decision... as are many members of the DPCA, judging from comments made on the Members Only email list. But then, I am not clear how this resource was valued or utilized by the DPCA... nor am I clear how it will be accessible in the future. It seems to me that in this day and age, the archives should be made available electronically… or they will be lost and/or loose relevance. To understand our breed and what is correct for our breed, don't we need to know and undersand how the Doberman Breed has developed over time?

But then, we are stunned by all sorts of thing the BoD has done. Look at the dogs chosen for Doberman of the Decade contest that the BoD came up with recently. I agree with all the criticism we've read on the DPCA email list about the flawed basic concept of this contest, but over and above that, would any of the dogs in the contest even have been in consideration 10 years ago? Are we allowing a rather bizarre “handler manipulated” over-exaggerated profile (which I would argue totally lacks functionality), to essentially ruin our breed? Is a long weak loin and poor loin connection ever acceptable for a square Working dog? Is an exaggerated “Turkey Waddle” what was intended by the phrase “well defined forechest?” Is a Turkey Waddle even functional? With respect to function, how does an exaggerated forechest relate in a positive way to function? What muscle groups - controlling the front assembly of the Doberman – are improved by an exaggerated forechest? Shouldn’t we value function when we evaluate what the heck is a "Correct Doberman" or a “Doberman of the Decade?” Do any of the proposed Dobermans of the Decade remotely resemble the profile of the dog sent out in the Idiot Card “Doberman At a Glance” which is distributed by the DPCA to AKC judges. IF not, shouldn’t they?

It is my understanding the Doberman of the decade has been scrapped. Good riddance to that little gem.... But the Archives issue has to be addressed by the incoming officers. I will talk to Mimi when she gets back from Nationals to see what went on and why this was adopted and how it was done. I would hate to think that it was a parting shot from the McNealy group, but let's face it, it fits the profile. On the Doberman standard I know that Jan and Mimi are sticklers for the proper standard. Both are old school no nonsense people that don't play politics. Both are easy to talk to and very good on explaining issues Doberman related and the other breeds they judge. We are so lucky to have Mimi as a member of our club. She is a fountain of good information. The dobe folks should be happy with both of them.

Even with the more specific AKC /DPCA vs. FCA standard there is a lot in there to be left to manipulation aka interpretation.

What is pretty in profile may not be in the best interest to the breed's intent.

Elaine points out length, loin, and forechests. I would like to point out fragile necks commonly found in bitches. Too long and overexaggerated taper in my book. I see a lot of necks not in good proportion to the head and body. These are working dogs not loch ness dogs. I am not bashing anyone's breeding here but a certain stud dog used a lot today is not helping the cause. He is however adding certain virtues such as head shape, bone and substance

Just my thoughts and opinions....and of course interpretation of the standard.
